looks like your rear bumper and exhaust absorbed most of the impact. the question is whether the bumper shocks kept the energy from going into the frame rails.

She was in a 1991 Honda Accord. The hood was in a nice wedge shape. Both headlights and the grill were smashed, and I'd say that her front end crumple zone did just that to the tune of a couple inches.

I have the feeling that there is some minor srtuctural going on. The gap between the hatch and the Bumper cover seems larger than it was. Rear windshield wiper does not work, but there is no obvious wrinkles in the rear 1/4 sheetmetal.

J E ..." Don't need no *** whoopings" from the photo it would appear to be "whooped".... The S-4 rear cover is NLA discontinued so the replacement is the GTS requires the reflector the aluminum rear bumper is the same 87-95, it will need shocks. Remember the rear muffler new from Porsche is big $$$ . So get the big new parts estimate and get ready to negotiate........... next time this happens you need to roll out of your car and flop like a fish on the ground ...be sure to get witness names

John: Expect structural damage, and be happy, if it turns out otherwise. But from the picture this is quite likely.

I've got witnesses. I went to the hospital. I just forgot to fall out and flop, but that would have required falling into a lane with oncoming traffic. No sense in dying to provide drama.

I'm not taking sh*t replacement parts. If they start that crap, what I'm hoping for is a "Totaled" car back and a nice check with an 8,5 or a 9 and three zeroes behind it before the ".". That's just for the car. They can negotiate with my medical insurance co. Any ideas on how that might fly by an insurance co.?

Coming in late on this thread. Dittos on the "glad you're OK"; that's what's important. However, I'd be pretty ticked even it was just a chip in the paint, especially at someone else's doing.

FWIW, I just got back from a grueling 32 hour seminar regarding insurance. Bottom line - check out HER policy limits (10/20/10, etc.), which will vary state to state. You can probably expect to get paid those limits fairly easily if SHE is admitting fault and THEY are in agreement. If the limits are low, you're in for a tougher road. Also, remember pain and suffering ...

Best of luck and play hard-ball. After all it was HER fault!

Hope it works out for you JE. I had an '85.5 944 that had a salvage title that I had repaired to as new condition. Got clobered by a drunk in front of my old house. The insurance totalled the car and paid based on what a car with a salvage titled car is worth which was $750.00 in 1991 according to them. Fought like hell to no avail. Their claim was that it wasn't worth anything compared to a clean title car regardless of condition. Hope you fair better.

Did make up for it with "Pain and Suffering" and bought the car back and put her back together and sold it to a buddy. They issued a check for $8000 for this. Keep in mind I wasn't even in the car when this occured so my pain and suffering was due to loss of use and days off of work. I think it works like Jim Bailey mentioned earlier on that angle.

We damn near had a front end collision to talk about. I decided to drive my GTS today (my normal daily driver is my S4). I just exited the freeway and was driving by a shopping mall and an old lady in a Toyota turned left in front of me. I was on the brakes and the ABS was doing its job. It was a miss by about 15 ft., I could see the fear in her husband's eyes as I was bearing down on them. I think the old lady decided it was her time to turn and she owned the road.

Tomorrow I have to take the same route, I'll take my '87 and hope not to repeat the saga!

I did a Kelly Blue Book check and factored in the salvage title. They still put the car at 7.5K. They are going to have to factor in taht this is only 1 of about 4500 made that year, 1 of about 1400 sold in the US and 1 of about 500 that had a manual transmission. They play hardball, I'm playing hardball and doing pain and suffering to the hilt!!!! Afterall, them playing hardball and them trying to low ball me would cause much suffering.

When my '86 auto was totaled (see Avatar) in 2003 my father printed out all of the Autotrader.com and ebay ads showing what the cars are actually selling for. By the time my father was done showing them the damage and the cost to repair they were happy to give us a check for $14k. With that I bought an '87 5-spd and a engagement ring. Even with the salvage title, the condition should be considered. Yes salvage title cars always sell for less on the open market but a good condition one is worth more than a bad condition good title car, right?

Beside usually you can buy the salvage back from them for $1000 or so and fix it with the check they just gave you and mabe have some leftover for Upgrades.........

That is the plan. Thinking maybe getting a straight tub with Clear title and building a better car. The adjuster basically didn't have a clue on the car (value, parts costs, availablity, etc.) and said so. So I gave him a few places to look. Said he wanted me to take it to a shop and that they would work everything out with me. They know I went to the Hospital and their insured party was TOTALLY at fault....they are being VERY nice......so far.

The Porsche is an unique automobile. Has anyone thought about dimunition of value? Research that concept before settling. Realize that it will NEVER be as good as when it left the factory, no matter what you do. The factory primer has been broken. I hesitate using the common word to describe a prime unmolested example, but you get the idea. The way you looked at it when you turned around after parking it as you were walking away from it.......that is over now. Think about that before you settle, if you settle.

What are you driving now? Have you made arrangements to rent a car while your car is in the shop? I would do that and NEVER let go of that car until they have repaired your car to your satisfaction. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER. No matter how much they threaten you. It must be back in like condition before the crash. The rental car is your lever. One adjuster I knew told me no matter how long, even 2 years, to fight and not give up the rental car. They may sue you. So what? Is the car acceptable or isn't it? Don't ask me how I know this.
My knowledge came at a price.
