I totally agree.

I'll see how I feel tomorrow. Doing OK with just some Motrin today.

It just sounds like you took a pretty hard lick, and I would be cautious before sticking to honorable intentions. Hopefully your ok and that's that!

Damn... 30MPH. That's fast for a collision. I know, as I work for an automotive safety supplier (airbags, seatbelts, etc). Did she even try and stop? FYI most of the insurance crash tests (you know the ones - Poor, Acceptable, Good) are run at 31 MPH. And most cars from our day would not fair well. Hers cartainly did not.

John keep the medical option open it may provide needed leverage to get a reasonable settlement to cover repairing your S-4. One 928 customer I know is a claims adjuster for a major company and he basically stated that if someone ASKS for up to about $5,000 to cover pain /medical they will usually simply pay it. If your medical insurance covers treatments take advantage of that benefit. It is not your fault that someone ran into you and you deserve to be returned to the state you were in just prior to their driver error. Take care and fix that car !!

What a bum(p)er! I'm sorry to hear this and hope you won't have any lasting neck pains from this.

Never trust the "look" of a car after an accident - there is a lot of hidden damage that can occur underneath a plastic bumper!

Also, remember that not the car that looks best after an accident is the safestst - it's the car where the passengers get out of with the least injuries!. That's part of why - against common belief - many trucks are actually quite dangerous - the passengers are subjected to higher forces because the vehicle does not crumple much.

That's kind of right Nicole. It's a combination of mass and acceleration (Force).
In most cases it's the instant acceleration/deceleration that kills. By allowing the car/airbag to absord most of the acceleration (iniertial/potential energy), the passengers can escape with relatively fewer injuries. This is why new cars have crumple zones. But at the same time, if the cabin is allowed to deform, it can cause some serious unexpected injuries.

In the case of large heavy suv's/trucks, they are actually much safer against small cars because of the mass differences. A small car will cause less damage to a large truck and it's passenger than to a similar sized small car and it's passenger. But SUV/Truck to SUV/Truck = bad news. You're right they don't absorb as much energy - thus leavig the human body to absorb the final blow!

I guess I was paying attention in Physics class. Damn I've managed to impress myself.

I heard no noise to indicate an attempt to stop. She was in a 25MPH zone. What little I got from one witness before they took me away was she just ran right up into me. I got LAUNCHED! Luckily my foot was barely on the brake and came off at impact. I actually had to find it and stop the car activating the ABS in about 20 feet as the nose stopped just in the intersection.

Here in Seattle a couple of occifers nailed each other in an intersection last week, and one subsequently took out a power pole.Hey JE it isn't her fault, it's becoming the norm not to pay attention .... just as long as you're not speeding and endangering other road users

Thanks Jim,

I'll have to see what I'm up against when I get the report from the police today. Then I'll go from there. I'm sure I will be posting more on this. I did go along with the Ambulance ride just in case. I got back luck maybe, but I'm no dummy.

I am told that she will be charged with a few things probably. I'll have to take time for court.

Glad you are okay as well JE. I got rearended by a nurse that fell asleep at the wheel of a Subaru years ago while parked at a stop light in a rental Cadillac Sedan Deville. Wound up with a hairline fracture through part of my C4. Didn't really know about that until 3 days later when I experienced some parastalsia (sp.?) in my right arm. Freaked out went to the hospital for x-rays/tests. Still experience some residual effects al these years later. I guess my point is, make sure to get totally checked out. You might feel fine now but nerve injury sometimes takes awhile to become evident. Hope you are fine and get the shark fixed.

Best regards,

Sheesh, JE, you *are* having a bad run....is it too late to retract my offer of letting you drive the Stuck GTS at the EURO 928??? Just kidding...maybe...

Good to hear you can still move all appendages. Like others have said - and I found out myself when my S4 was totaled in that Autobahn rear-ender - you may feel real pain only in a few days. Hope it doesn't come to that.

BTW, I just love that cool avatar of yours ;-) Ahhh, those were the days. May she rest in peace.

Best,

Thilo

I got more x-rays last night than I've had all together in the last 20 years I think. Litterally, they took about 20. $$$$$ to the insurance co. All angles covered. They say the vert. are all fine.

Long term I'm worried more about the shark. It's painful, but muscular in nature I'm told.

Too bad about the wreck. Hopefully you and the car will emerge with relatively minor damage. Count your blessings that you didn't get t-boned in the intersection.

Wishes for a quick recovery...

Eifert .."but I'm no dummy." ...... crash test ?? ... Just thankful you are OK , one friend of mine recently got hit( rather minor) while stopped at a light (not in his 928) cops arrive and haul him away for DUI he had had "two" drinks at his favorite bar just minutes before !!! Seems his friend the bartender overpours his cocktails. Which when I think about it takes away the intent of his "crime".
