Jeff I'm at a loss for words as to how much work and devotion you are putting into this car. You are a true 928 enthusiast and I'm sure that car will look as gorgeous as it was brandnew inside the showroom floor at Porsche with the high sticker price in the windshield that made us only drool and dream over that car. Best of luck to you and keep up the great work

Very nice... I see you are getting the obligatory skinned knuckles. When I'm working on the car, I can't quite relax until I've drawn blood. Seems it has to happen every time. When it doesn't, I feel like I overlooked some vital thing that needs to be done. No blood, how can I be finished?

Hello Jeff,

I just got the opportunity to see your progress to date. I chuckled a bit, as it seemed all too familiar.

Check out the link to my restoration last year:

I wish that I had found my window sticker!

Yeh man I hear that !!! That was actually Big Willie's knuckles.. He was trying to get the alan bolts out of the hinges to get the doors off and stripped one of the bolts out. Well at 6'8-9'' and 400 lbs even with the car on stands he was way bent over......he stripped the bolt out, got a leg cramp, got pissed off and went over to the garage door (fully open and still at eye level to him) and pounded one of the metal panels out of it hahahaha what a freak show that huge S.O.B. is for sure! I calmly told him he needed anger managment classes and he said "%uck you" hahhahaha.

Mike that restoration is awesome! That thing looked trashed and now its a real gem! I really like the interior speaker quarters. They really make the inside look killer. Nice color too. I hope you dont mind if I have a few door window seal questions in a couple of weeks. haha Cuz I think I'll have a few. Oh yeh and nice site too man. I was going to put it all together too when I'm through. And yours is a real nice example.

This is your fault Jeff -

I just pulled off the sode strips to see what is underneath. There are two holes on the front and rear fenders, and two holes in the door. All holes are between 1/4 and 3/8 of an inch without measuring. I actually thought they would be bigger. I just had to see. That rub strip "double sided" tape - how did your guy get all that off, or did he just grind it off because he was doing everything anyway?

Thanks,
Brendan

Hey Jeff, AWESOME job!!!!! I think it's about time to change your signature, since you're not going with the burgundy. Can't wait for the finale!

Jeff,

Awesomee work. I am doing the same type of restoration as you, but at about 1/10 of the pace. I have gotten all the body panels off, but was also having trouble with those damn hex bolts holding on the doors. How did you eventually get them off?

Great work and keep the pics coming - I am learning a lot from you!!

Great job Jeff.

PM me an address. Im back on the bike and on the B&A trail couple of times a week. I'd love to see it all in person if your close to the trail. Even if your not, i can still drive over.

BTW - nobody HAS to go to a Kenny Chesney concert.

Yhe man I'm close to the trail but the car is in VA. I got a few nice bikes you can check out though. aha Believe me when I am finished I'll be following you to the first get together there is.

And the only reason I went to the Chesney concert is to check out the women and wear my hat without getting into a fight over it hahahaha

Cool man I'm glad you are liking the pics haha. Hey on those hex bolts I stripped out two of them trying to get them out .......so I got a propane torch and put the heat to them ruthlessly till there was a good amout of smoke from the other side of the firewall. Then knocked them loose with a 6MM hex bit on a 3/8 drive hand impact tool......about $20 at track auto . They all snapped out really easily then. The two that my Bud stripped out ........ I took a 1/2 inch 1' long extention with a 12 point 12mm ( if I remember) socket and drove it over the head of the bolts after I heated them. Once the face of the socket was in contact with the doorjamb, I just turned them off with the ratchet. They gave in like a couple of sissies with that method hahaha after looking at the boly when I got it out of the socket it had a perfect 12 point contact that could have easily held up to far more resistance than those bolts could ever give me. If you just feel like replacing all of them you could probably just do them all like that with no heat and tadaa . But as it is I only have to replace two. And I'm painting them all black (new Idea haha)

There were only 2 places of corrosion. The biggest being under the rear spoiler and under the trim on the hatch.....pretty messy. The only other place was under the trim that seperates the quater panel from the roof. and that was only right there where that little screw is under the hatch....very minor. This was a cosmetically neglected car too. I mean they have all the maintence records up to date real nice my the dealers but stored it outside and just let the interior go to $hit. If there was a way to rinse the channel out under the hatch glass trim that would be great but as it is it collects fine dust and rotted leaves and crap. And with that keeps the moisture around for and indefinite amount of time and there you go. It would be nice to have someone to figure out how to irragate it as a 6 month service hahaha DOUCHE?
