Drove 200 miles in dads s2 (inspired by V2 lol), and then installed a new door handle on the 924, also a full wax and finishing up some odds and ends from the WP and timing belt service. It was a long day, now i just need to figure out which connectors to use on the thermofan switch as my car has the late one and its wired for an early.

i replaced my alternator. such a minor thing but a task for me. in fact, it took 2 of my buddies to complete the task within the daylight we had. so i could drive it to work tomorrow.

we would have been fine, but the clarks garage post didnt mention the need to remove the radiator fan to remove a single volt from the alternator or properly describe which bolt to remove to loosen the tension on the belt.

also, i have noticd with a working alternator that a dying alternator apparently has a huge effect on low rpm performance...

I put mine in a tire wall.

I was running fast laps P3 in class slightly closing on the leaders, but too far back to really catch them, but trying anyway.
1:14.1 -> 1:13.8 -> 1:13.3 -> 1:13.0 -> Tire wall.

Good news is that is really cosmetic. I went deep under braking and went off track straight in to the tires at maybe 40 mph or less. Header panel bend along with both front fenders and the spoiler got bent up. It was rubbing the tires and I did no know the condition of the radiator so I parked it. The bumper shocks are not even pushed in it should be an easy fix.

I have a month to fix it and change rod bearings. I have in car video and see if I can post it soon.

Sucks cause I had 3rd place locked up with probalby 20 second gap to 4th. Oh well...

Bummer, but glad that the damage is not all the extensive. Good luck with the repairs.

...spotted it on Google Street View, in a parking space I managed to use for most of that summer! This is before I had put the turbo front end and rear valence on. Ah, the memories...

put most my engine back together(finally) this weekend but for cam tower and belts. I think I'll have buddy over next weekend that was dealer tech for 25 years for that one. Call me chicken. Only had to take turbo on and off twice. I am so glad I'm building on an engine stand and not in the car. These things go together sort of strange don't they? The Lindsey turbo oil filter kit fittings are differnt sizes. Nothing ever just goes together all at once do they?

On 2-6-10 I installed an aftermarket tach in front of the broken factory one. I used vinyl rim tape to mark the red line. It shows up so much better at a glance, and doesn't hide any other gauges except the factory tach. Say what you will, but as of now I like it!

Then on 2-7-10 I went on a local BMW drive. Some of them struggled to keep up. Funny thing is the two cars that had the most pictures taken on this run were my 944 and my buddies M-Coupe.

This weekend should diagnose the upper valve train noise (follower I suspect) and install the new sway bars (26.8mm front, 5-way 19mm rear). Finally I will be able to run proper pressure in the rear 255's and still be slightly loose at the limit! Looking forward to this season of DE's and SoloII.

Nothing too exciting, but dropping off the car today Feb 12 to have new oil, coolant, power steering fluid, brake fluid and tranny fluids replaced. (car has been sitting quite a bit the last couple of years before I bought it a few weeks ago.)
Putting in a Gel cell battery, new fuel, oil and air filters as well. Oh and checking the timing belt too!

I'll be ready for spring in no time.

Just peered at it yet again in sadness until the two feet of snow finally are gone.

not much to report lately, haven't been driving my car much. the joys of it being garaged at work and not at home

just sorting out replacing some dashboard trim:

looking at replacing my 80's style cassette holder/arm rest...

with one of these trays

I bought a 944S2 front sway bar and made a good car buddy at the same time. dont have a matching rear yet- i have a 944 turbo rear sway but its on permanent loan to my friends racecar.

bought a replacement overflow reservoir and some new stainless hatch pins (stop my hatch from rattling!) which will be on their way from the US right now.
current reservoir:

new one:

hatch pins

scrutineering weren't too thrilled by my battery clamp my last track day so getting the boys at the shop to make me a new one.

I haven't driven the damn car in 2010. It's still under 3 feet of snow. Last weekend I excavated to the point where I could pull up the cover and get in. It looks like a wooly mammoth carcass in the Arctic. I started it and ran it until nice and warm. Back spasms put an end to the digging fun.

The melting snow is going to make driving very messy for a long time so I have no problem keeping the 944 "on ice."
