The health of your hatch is the sum of all it's parts and can be a delicate balance. Over time UV light weakens the adhesive that bonds the glass to the metal frame of the hatch. These cars are all 30 yrs + so the reality is they are all weakened to some point.

New, full strength struts can pull on the glass and separate it from the frame along the leading edge of the hatch where it hinges to the body. The glass is only toughened glass, not stronger laminated glass, so prolonged driving with glass separation can cause it to flex and then chip or crack. Do a search, some people have opted to use jeep struts instead of the porsche ones. These aren't as strong but are the correct length. The idea is they're not strong enough to pull the glass from the weakened adhesive in the hatch frame.

So having all good condition hatch components, seals, hatch pin seats, greased locks, hatch pins adjusted correctly, hatch properly aligned, and being careful to close your hatch evenly with two hands all helps to prevent the glass separating from the frame.

This post is not so much what I did to, but did with the 84'. My wife and I just celebrated our 25th Anniversary this past week and took the old girl to accompany us to the White Mountain Region in New Hampshire. We stayed at the Omni Hotel that overlooks Mt. Washington; a very nice, grand structure first constructed in 1902. We ate very well and really took advantage of the incredible weather by undertaking a couple 5-mile nature hikes. Unfortunately, the Mt. Washington Auto Road was still closed (until mid-May) so we couldn't drive up to the summit. Perhaps this could be an opportunity for a Porsche run later this summer if there's interest. Otherwise, we had a great time and the car ran without a hiccup!

(Thought I'd resurrect this thread.)

My driver's side window switch has been working intermittently over the past few months. Today I removed all 3 switches, disassembled, and cleaned all of the contacts. I also flipped the little v-shaped contactors inside the switch so that the more worn contacts and less worn contacts are flipped (hope this will make the fix last longer). And I put the driver's switch on the passenger door & vice versa, to get the least used switch to the driver's window. Works now. Time will tell.

I repo'd my 88 n/a from a nephew, he couldn't afford the payments. On a brighter side, my 89 is now running on Vitesse MAP WooHoo!

Installed a Lindsay Boost Enhancer on the Silver Rose. Had one that was removed so putting a new one back on. Really wakes up the Turbo in these……

Oh, come on Uncle Dan! Based on your signature line, you have no shortage of vehicles to drive. I think as long as he changes the oil every 3k, pays for his own insurance, gets no speeding tickets or DUIs, he should get to keep the car. It's much better to have the car on the road than sitting in the garage collecting dust. Plus, you get to be the bestest Uncle Dan ever

You aren't wrong there, but I'm OK with it. The boy asked me to take it back, as he was going to buy something newer (16 Jetta) and I gave him all his $$$ back for his deposit. He did a track event in the car on Mid-Ohio, (I'm the best uncle just for THAT) and that was my goal really. I'd bet he could track the Jetta and be considerably faster than the ole n/a. He DID get a photo ticket in it, which came to my house because he still had my plates on it, ::eyeroll::

Polished (and sealed/waxed) my 944. Getting it ready for the Werks Reunion at Amelia. Gotta love that single stage paint.
