What did you do to your 924/944 today

Me and the boy removed the rear bumper, pads, side caps and lights. Began sanding down drivers side quarter. (Just the beginning of a total repaint)
Also got started on timing belt and waterpump replacement last night. My dad is in town for 2 weeks over Christmas and is a mechanic, so I figure he'll help!

Three Wheelin'
removed and replaced rubber boots for MAF and another sensor on the 968. Boots are NLA from Porsche, but can be bought from Dave Barton at 240Turbo.com.

Fought a pilot bearing way too long yesterday.
parts store bearing puller flexed under its own pressure and just wouldn't grab.
the grease trick just made a mess.
Read a guy's suggestion about using an expanding concrete anchor and long bolt as jackscrew, didn't work.
Turns out parts store has another similar pilot bearing puller that attaches to their loaner slide hammer.
The 944 pilot is only 15mm ID so the jaws wouldn't fit, had to take one jaw off, slide the other in first, then wedge the 2nd back into place and repin it to the tool. Then thread onto hammer.
2nd "slide" and yanked the ****er out.
today will be dressing the long block, goal is to get the engine in the car tomorrow.

You can sometime use the "bread trick" instead of grease..less messy..or get a tighter fitting rod or driver if you use the grease. Glad that you got it out though!

Paint Restoration on Guards Red 944
Cool thread idea here.
Now that I am basically done with most mechanical and electrical
maintenance ( for now I should say LOL), I'm moving on to the Guards Red paint job on my '87
944 N/A. While it is generally in good shape for a
32 year old car
a car detailer recommended I get a clay bar kit to remove all of the
surface contamination. I bought the Mothers kit with the lubricant spray,
2 clay bars and a good micro fiber cloth. It works unbelievably well with
the surface ending up like a red tinted mirror. I will then get the red tint wax
he recommended and finally do the ceramic coating.

Spent this evening in both rear wheel wells with a bunch of rags, nylon brush and about 1/2 can of PB Blaster...

Finally got around to putting in the chrome dash rings. Front glass popped right out with all the glue dried up. Two center rings fit snug-both outers needed a drop of glue. Polished the glass and dusted the gauges. Then spend an hour cleaning the vents up. Very pleased with the results!!!
