I took part in the Monte Shelton NW Classic Rally this last weekend.

My aunt and uncle have been going for a number of years in their ’65 Sunbeam Tiger, and suggested I sign up with my 944. We did the Tour Group, and let the crazy ones do the actual “Rally”.

Two fantastic days driving around Oregon, flogging the guts out of my ’86 NA. While I couldn’t keep up with the 911’s, Boxster Spider and Cayman GTS, I didn’t have a problem keeping up with several other cars.

My car never skipped a beat, ran flawless and handled great. Still some worn front end parts to replace, but that will be taken care of this winter. Already signed up for next year.

Busy weekend for me. I've been trying to troubleshoot a floating idle that hovers around 2k rpm when the car is warmed up, and takes a long time to return to idle when it's not. Classic vacuum leak symptoms, right? Well, I pulled the intake manifold and replaced all of the 4mm vacuum lines. New intake gaskets (after about an hour carefully scraping the old ones off with a razor) and throttle body seal, and a couple other larger vacuum hoses around the idle stabilizer and AOS. Decided the remaining hoses were still in good condition.

Nothing. No change whatsoever. Triple checked the vacuum line routing. Later read (after putting everything back together) that it's a good idea to actually clean out the idle stabilizer valve. Probably should've done that. Ordered an O2 sensor just in case that's the problem. Don't have a propane torch to test the existing one with.

Needed just a little bit of victory to cap off the weekend, so I replaced the passenger side door linkage. If anybody else is planning on doing this soon, it is WAY easier if you roll up the window and pull the door panel. Still frustrating, though, but I got it done.

Did nothing to the cars this weekend(no energy to do any work), but i started the 931 and had a blast driving around for a bit. Every time i drive this car it makes more sense as a sports car and i love it more. I need to take this car on some tasty twisties in september or october...driving this thing is truly a visceral experience.

Hmmm... My pics quit working.. I'll have to check into that and fix it...

Had a new windshield installed..spendy but sooo much nicer. Original one was starting to separate around the edges (bubbles forming between the glass), plus there were so many rock chips, one would think they were looking through frosted glass whenever the sun shined through it.

Hatch glass is starting to come unglued from the frame. Plus the glass is starting to milk out, so I'll have to start the hunt for a new hatch.

Also did some autocross over the weekend. Love how well the car handles.

Installed a new heater control valve, then lost the clip during reinstallation, so that's fun...
Replaced the air filter as well, plus may have fixed the short that was causing the radio circuit to blow its fuse.

Going to do a couple hour trip up into the mountains west of Denver this weekend, so I'm trying to get things buttoned up beforehand.

Discovered a light yesterday. I had taken the ashtray out of my 924s (to tighten the sliding lids up a bit) and discovered that there is a bulb tucked under the port side! I guess that explains why there is a hole on the side of the ashtray. Who knew?!

Removed the belt cover (after a day at the track) to have a look at the timing belt and discovered #11 at the bottom of the cover. Now I know why I could pull the cover away from the motor so easily.

Is this the one that goes through the oil pump? Was it installed already?

I don't know. In the event that it is, would it be an issue to leave it for a while? Thanks.

That bolt is one of the two that holds the inner belt cover to the block. that's all it's for.

Ran over two mice at once in the garage. Baffling, and gruesome, but I'm happy to have reduced the chances of rodent-related damage to soft rubbery bits.

Took the 931 to a morning coffee drive.
Bolted the RH door pocket as it was hanging in the car for too long.
Replaced the glove compartiment and its door as the old one had a broken hinge.
Took this artsy picture from the coffee shop.
