!!!!
Did the R&R of all rear wheel bearings & seals today....124,000 miles on my 1983 N/A with steel trailing arms....unknown if ever done before.
The RH 36mm nut was not really tight at all..and that side had more wheel wobble when checking the slop rocking the tire with the car up...
The RH side Grrrrr-rd at times especially when cornering around in S's, also there was a clunk or snap when shifting at slow 1st to second.....after 60 miles it sounds good & gone so far!!!
WAY WAY easier IMHO then the old Corvette IRS ones I have done in my past...

washed it, even though it was raining right before and right after i finished. looked up some motor parts for the rebuild coming up this winter or early spring 2010.
also did my RF control arm(needed the ball joint, but for 90 bucks, the arm will do), while picking it up walked around and came upon a euro 924 turbo and a 86 944 turbo also euro import

Three Wheelin'
...finally got around to replacing my fuel damper today and also added the upgraded Lindsey braided steel line from the damper to the fuel rail. Looks nice and shiny!!!
I'll probably wash it later...it's pretty funky...I need to get the wax off and get the buffer out and polish a few spots...picked up a few scratches in the last month or so...I'm wore out from doing the lawn in 96 degree temps in Austin today...the heat is unbearable!!!

Took it out of the garage to beat it up autocrossing, now its time to wash it and put it back in the garage. The damn miata is to much fun for a daily and its making me miss my 944.

Today - Made some room for the new tires by "adjusting" the LR quarter panel lip with an angle grinder.

After a long, rainy week, I actually DROVE the girl! GOt to put some miles on the converted rear suspension, and I really like it. It has a real solid feel. Impacts seem to be transmitted more firmly (could be the increased spring rate), but it's a solid thumpy fee. And DAMN it's low!
Makes me wonder what a typical ride height should be.

On Saturday I took my NA out the azpca auto x. Had great time. Good chance to see what we can do together. It was my first auto x with this car. In the past it was 911s. Really like the 944. Just need stickier tires. Next is a DE in October if the timing is right. Can't wait.

I installed a CPR V1 splitter. Came out nice. I may need to tweak the passanger side a little bit though. Only issue was thata PO installed an alarm and mounted the siren and antenna to the old batwing.

I changed my power steering rack bushings last night. It was NOT as easy as I had hoped. It's just four bolts, but all but one is affected by interference from P/S hoses and the sway bar. It's basically essential to remove the P/S hose bracket on the driver's side to reach the lower bolt.
And gettting the new bushings mashed into place was tougher than expected. All together, it probably took me an hour.

Only slightly. Maybe if I had gone with Delrin it would have been more noticeable. The Delrin is just too expensive for a questionable upgrade. I just replaced OEM with OEM, and I did it at the recommendation of a tech who noticed (after an alignment) that the car seemed to take a "set" going left and sometimes right, and he felt that the rack was shifting.
The old bushings looked OK to me.

1st oil change...
6.75 qts of Castrol syntec 5W50 (on sale) ~2/3's between the marks
not too bad...the upside filter is messy, otherwise straight forward
it had the OC75 filter (928?) about an 1" longer than the replacement

Picked my car up last night with new Turbo brakes and Konis!
The feel and ride quality of a fresh(er) set of Koni shocks, in lieu of my previous 120K non-Konis is like night and day: the clunks are gone, there are no more terrifying shudders at moderate speeds over bumps... Ahhh.
Sadly, it was *pouring* rain, so I couldn't test the brakes adequately, but it's clearing up now and I have a track day on Sunday to really give it a shakedown before putting it away for the winter.
I'm off to get an alignment, now, then bed in the brakes!
