The Triangle P stamp indicates an OE part...

On the new one - is that a little funny-looking "P" inside a triangle?

If so that's a Geniune Porsche part. The P and triangle is the Porsche Parts logo.

Polishing this set of phone dials hasn't been too much work because they were already down to the raw aluminum. So my steps were as follows:

- Degrease and clean wheels
- Wet sand with 1000 grit
- Wet sand with 1500 grit
- Polish with medium compound using a buffing wheel (electric drill)
- Polish with a polishing / finishing compound using buffing wheel
- Then for a last step I have tried a few different aluminum polishes, and had best luck with something designed for trucks, cannot remember the name right now.

Are your wheels painted? If so you would need to strip them first, using aircraft stripper, or having them professionally stripped.

I have a set of fuchs that I need to polish the lips on, with those I had to strip them first so the sanding process is requiring much more time and some more aggressive grits.

Any auto parts store has aircraft stripper, it comes in a liquid or rattle cans, I have had better luck with the rattle cans (but I am fairly sure it is the same exact stuff). Or you were looking for polished phone dials I don't think I am planning on keeping mine for very long.

The problem with polishing is that the surface needs to be perfect to get the shine, and it does take a lot of work.

I might suggest having them bead blasted, it does not cost too much per wheel and it would give you a nice raw surface to work from. I have some aircraft stripper in the garage if you wanted to try one wheel with that technique, but regarldess budget some hours to get them how you want them.

And I think I am holding on to these Fuchs, even if they don't go on the graphite car, I need them for the 924 GTS replica I will someday own........

Thanks Ian, I may take you up on the stripper. If you know of any bead blasters locally let me know.

Ooooo, daddy likes. Are you using the existing cat, or eliminating it? I ask because I need new exhaust and am not sure on which cat to get.
