Another visit to the body shop today. They completed a bit of additional metal work and are onto filling and smoothing.

A few other projects (and "projects") at the shop.

I think you should pick up that 56 Chevy while you're at it.

Back at home, I tried some paint stripper in the fan housing.

Most of the paint came off the inner half, but not a much on the outer half--two coats?

I also worked on the sheet metal. All pieces are in pretty good shape.

A few areas that needed straightening.

The upper right piece has some rustic half-repair with primitive brazing that has to come off.

OK, I know my eyes are not what they once were, but I do not see a '56 Chevy anywhere?

2 door coupe from the back- must be an Impala because it has 3 taillights. I'm afraid I know this trivia because we had a '59 convertible and I've always loved the tri'5 Chevys...

Worked on the upper right sheet metal piece today. Step 1, grind out all the brass brazing.

Welding.

Then grinding. I will make another pass to get the finish better, since I want to have the engine sheet metal powder-coated and can't use filler.

You will want that area reasonably strong as that is where the coil is mounted. How the hell did that get screwed up in the first place?????? The history of this car gets more and more interesting...

OK, just to clarify, that is not a '56 Chevrolet. I had a '55,'56 and '57. That is a '58 Impala. Great car- but not a tri-5 car.

There was a web of cracks coming from the lower captive nut, and a single crack from the upper nut. I suppose it could have been an impact, but the sheet metal was not deformed. My guess is stress from vibration.

Here's the sheet metal repair after 2 more rounds of weld and grind. I think this will do for powder coating.

I also treated the front of the blower housing to another round of paint remover.

Then I cleared the table and opened the dreaded box.

The engine harness is in fair shape, and needs all new plug boots. The main harness has several PO "modifications".
