After a 25 Year Break, 914 Ownership Again
My Porsche habit started with a series of 914s (the first to learn, the second as a pristine mild restoration for fun and DD use, the third built for SCCA and PCA racing). I was dreaming about project cars, and this 1973 2.0 came along. I have yet to see the car in person (a good friend with deep Porsche and 914 experience checked it for me--thanks, Mark!), but it seems to be very original and complete. I have to wait until early September to fetch it, but I am already making plans and lists.

Looks like a great starting point! Congrats and welcome back to the fold... '73 2 liters are the best ones to have after a real 6, of course I'm biased...

That is identical to my first Porsche with the exception that mine was a 1974 2.0. Purchased mine in 1983 and I've been hooked ever since. Have fun and enjoy it in good health!

Congratulations and welcome back. It looks like it's in nice shape.
Might be an illusion from the angle of the photo, but the top of that door gap looks closed up. Did your friend remove the roof and check the tops of the doors to make sure the chassis isn't sagging and that the doors open and close freely?

From the one picture there are quite a few things that aren't "original" to a '73 2.0 but who cares??? Drive it and enjoy it and slowly return it "stock" if that's what you want... if the hell hole is intact you've got a winner...

side mirrors
rear reflector strip
model insignia on engine lid
wheel center cap logos
blacked-out trim
(Not in this photo: crest on hood, steering wheel, seat cushions)
What else do you see?

I don't mean to nit pik because both of mine have several "mods" as well. In addition to what you mentioned, the exhaust exits on right so definitely something different. Should have chrome bumpers with appearance group if in fact it does though the sails do have vinyl. Does it have fog lights? '73 with appearance group and 2.0 should have F and R sway bars. Porsche letters on engine lid too close together to make room for the extra 2.0 etc.
Look like nice OEM fuchs so good there!! DRIVE it!!!! You've got the great roads there!!!

Got down to Texas yesterday, and picked up the car. Looks about as good in person as from descriptions by the seller and my friend who inspected it for me, i.e. not perfect but mostly complete, original, and rust-free. Does need work, including a bodged repair to a slight impact on the front right corner. I could not wait and pulled the front bumper to confirm that most of the front panel is very straight. The front hood has been dented and patched, and so picked up a nice used replacement while in Texas. The only other surprise so far: one previous owner (not the seller) loved black and red. The frunk interior has lots of black undercoat/plasti-dip (including the brake fluid reservoir--not helpful!). And the underside has some unexpected red, like the transaxle and the heat exchangers.
