Covid! Everything can be blamed on Covid these days!
I have stuff that I have coming and going all delayed or lost by UPS and USPS.
You are so right. Seems like all of my Fedex shipments have gone out of whack and they only say Covid as the reason. Could be somewhat legit but also seems like an excuse to reduce service. I have been waiting for a shipment from Pelican that is 45 minutes away by car for a week from Fedex!
Based upon my research, I decided to dive in and just assemble the heads and camshaft towers as a single assembly. I will have these ready for when my pistons and cylinders arrive.
Here is a shot of me getting everything together to start with the first bank.
Head/camshaft towers assembled. Used Loctite 574 as my sealant. I have only installed the rockers for the #1and #4 cylinders. Will install the rest once I can check piston to valve clearance. Used RSR rocker seals. More parts to sit and wait.
Divergent Pelican story. I wanted some Grill screens for my 991. Easy enough. Order from rennline. Silly $ shipping. So check pelican. In stock! And they are local so most stuff i get next day. Well. Order 1 comes. Wrong screens. Send back. Order 2 comes. Wrong screens. Send back. Order 3 comes. Right! After spending multiple calls and pictures to help them realize they need to check their stock part numbers before slapping a part label and shipping.... got the right ones. I’m sure they lost money one the deal. I wasted time. All to save $30....
covid? Maybe... or just a lack of attention to detail Ugh.
it might be worth calling a few shops to see if they have stock,,,, you never know. Supertec, tlg, etc.
I planned all along to go with one of LN Engineering P&C sets - the 87.5 Nickies with JE pistons at 9.5:1 CR. It pretty much always shows as in stock on their website and Pelican so I didn't think I needed to order many weeks in advance. Anyway, I ordered them up from Pelican a week ago and found out a few days later they were back ordered for 2 months. Pelican site said in stock when I ordered and LN's site still says in stock so I am confused. Pelican says they contacted LN directly and they are back ordered and Pelican also seemed surprised by the availability. I also reached out to LN today and will see what they say. Mine aren't custom like yours were so I was hoping I could somehow get my order expedited
Sorry for the inconvenience. We had a 2 or 3 set sets on the shelf until just recently and they all went fast. We have more cylinders scheduled to get made out in the shop in the next two weeks. We just finished up a run of Rotaxes.
The 87.5s will be first to go through the shop so we can get them to plating ASAP as the platers usually are the limiting factor for us for turnaround.
Our website doesn't reflect actual inventory and actually says "Contact us for availability and ordering info. Most sets in stock. Back orders may take up to 6-8 weeks." The moment we get down to the last set on the shelf, it gets added to the queue. It's our goal to never run out, but sometimes we do.
^those cylinders sure look pretty! Can't wait to see them in person on my bench. That is good news that the 87.5s will go next. Glad to hear that business seems to be going well - I have witnessed too many local small business close their doors over the past several weeks. Appreciate anything you can do to help a desperate guy with his motor in pieces in his living room lol
Just got word from @lnengineering that my pistons and cylinders have been shipped! Thanks guys for turning them around so quickly. Will post photos once those beauties arrive and are installed
Today was Porsche day. Took a day off work and drove to Pelican and Sierra Madre to pick up part orders. Also dropped off my aluminum trim to be refinished. Hard to find places that do the correct bright finish anodize and it is crazy expensive - to my surprise.
