Haha I wish. I really had no idea how expensive it was. I brought my parts with me on my trip and when I got to the restorer I was blown away by the cost - guess I should have gotten an estimate before I went there lol. I really didn't expect it. Finding a place that does this work is hard though. He had a bunch of Porsche parts from around the country in his shop.

I looked in my receipts on who did mine but it’s just listed as sublet and the price didn’t seem too crazy....
there is a lot of prep work involved

^yep. They strip the original anodizing, polish, straighten, remove dents, then re-anodize. Many places don't do the true bright dip anymore due to chemicals and permits/restrictions. The polishing itself is quite a bit of work. They also said costs have gone up a lot in past 5 years due to restrictions on chemicals. I couldn't find anyone else that actually did everything. Some shops would do parts of process but not all.

I used King of Trim in Pacoima. They advertise in Esses Magazine. BtW, I picked up my pistons/cylinders from Pelican today! Will post pics later. Beautiful - that's all I can say.

Gonna start installing these beauties this weekend. So pretty I feel like keeping them on my coffee table as art/decor.


LN Nickies 87.5 billet aluminum cylinders for my 2.5 MFI build. Half mooned and designed to slip into my stock spigots - no boring of my early case.



JE Forged Pistons with anti friction coating on skirts.



Dome shaped with deep recesses for valves - high lift/duration cams. Setup for 9.5:1 compression ratio.




Wouldn't these look great on a coffee table?

alternatively, the cylinders can be made into desk lamps or the old ones used to hold tools

Ok - good progress today. Installed the rings and then the pistons into the cylinders. Also installed one wrist pin clip on each set. This was the worst part of the job - I hate those damn circlips! I even bought the Stomski circlip injector tool - which definitely helped but it was still a pain. The other side should be easier since the wrist pins will be stationary.






Success! Ready to attach to the rod.

Installed the pistons using 1mm base shims supplied by Ollie’s based on the case machining. Testing piston to head clearance using the solder method. Can I just say one more time that I hate the wrist pin circlips!

^well done!! Today I bought the main bearing kit and the famous #8 bearing!!!
Of course, I am just writing checks when it comes to engine/trans/LSD.

^thanks! I may be wishing I just cut checks for the motor rebuild when it is all said and done we will see. I am enjoying some aspects of it, but it has been really challenging to squeeze in my time and it is going slow as I am learning as I go.

I wish I was building mine myself... I have the temperament to do so (I've rebuild a couple motors, not Porsches a long time ago) , but time is a major problem at the moment... so easy out, write checks.
