I recently got ahold of my SRS… I am very surprised by this talk of ear plugs. Yes the car is loud with the top down at moderate speeds it’s really just a low drone symphony of intake and exhaust sounds. Never even considered the need for air plugs until I saw someone post about it here.

I was coming from a 992 and my comments are: wow I am impressed with how much easier the driving is on this car. The suspension is more pleasant than on my 992, and because the car is smaller, it really feels easier to drive/use on a daily basis. I’ve been driving it a lot more than my 992. I wish it had the surround view sensors for parking that the 992 had.

the only issue I have had is the alarm going off after I lock the car. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem?

Had my first ride today…wow. The song those intakes sing is like nothing else. The downshift bark is … automotive perfection.

Congrats! I did my first road trip today in the Smokey mountains. Drove the car at the limit and carved up some canyons. Crossed 2k miles today.

The downshift violence is incredible in PDK Sport (not manual mode) under hard braking — it might be too early for you to try that but wow.

Do non-RS GT cars have the same kind of PDK Sport programming?

Thank you! I thought long and hard about my spec since this will likely be a forever keeper. @white2abbit very jealous of your imminent freedom. Once I'm there will find more reasons to drive I'm sure so perhaps!

Have you broken in yet? I think the violence only begins above 7k rpm - I haven't come close to needing ear plugs within break-in at <6k rpm. Also never had the alarm going off after locking. Could it be an issue with one of the roof lever locks not being fully down? I noticed once there was more resistance than normal on one side and it kept saying my cover was not fully locked. Didn't try locking the car at this point though. I think it was just pulling a bit more to one side so once I readjusted it was fine..

how many have the 18 ways? are they grippy enough for the car? I keep wondering if I should have spec'd buckets

Everyone can have a different opinion on this. However IMHO if you are tracking the car, and this includes autocross I think you are going to want buckets. Plus they look cooler.
Pain in the *** to get out of though.

Spyder RS with no track use (high speed with top is only like 120?) and I'm going 18ways every time.

Buckets are plenty grippy. And look the business. So much better looking than sofas, imho.

But yes, they do require extra effort for ingress / egress.

Comfort level is body specific, so won’t presume to comment.

The 18-ways are the wrong seat for a collector car like this, they look terrible, and they don’t hold you in place.

Those seem to be the clichés the vast majority celebrate on these forums; but I don’t think anyone should let that conventional wisdom influence his decision.

I just completed an entire day of mentally insane driving in the canyons of the Smokey Mountains yesterday in my Spyder RS (I just crossed 2,000 miles) — and I can tell you 100% I never thought about the seats while driving because I was glued in place. The Race-Tex is certainly helpful, and the bolstering is excellent. I’ve got my flame suit on because the 90% majority will continue to come after me on this topic and skewer me because they enjoy doing so; but there is no other car that offers a non-bucket sport seat that has a seat superior to that of the Sport Seat Plus.

@jlee504
You made a great choice!

To those who like the buckets: good for you!

Check out those Gs… even though people know where I stand on this issue, I would honestly say so if the seats were an issue yesterday.

I went with 18 ways on mine and have been very happy about that decision so far. I hate buying cars for “resale” and they were far more comfortable than the buckets for me. But perhaps for some people this won’t be as big of an obstacle for routine use.

If I had a 4RS I would only want buckets, but I think the spyder RS, especially given its softer suspension from the factory, is meant to be more comfortable for road use anyway.

It's a street based RS, you made the correct choice!

Buckets and 18 ways are a purely personal choice. I got buckets for the SRS because I wasn't able to get them in my 991.1 GT3, order was in before they were available as an option, and I find them comfortable for me and prefer them for spirited driving. Yes the 18 ways hold you in, however I did find that I have to brace more with my left leg than I do when using buckets. For the majority the 18 ways would be fine. In my GT3 the seats did start to squeak after a couple of years and was annoying to hear when driving sedately. Hopefully the buckets don't end up with a squeak.
