Sorry guys, I am not great at writing DIY. 😀 I kinda rushed my install and did not take any pics. Great info from @sgreer78.

@718socal Regarding the activation of Nav, Online Services, and Connect: Since PCMs installed on cars not optioned for Porsche Connect don't have SIM card slots, is there any benefit to adding Online Services or Connect?

I've installed the MIB via the old method (network adapter). I plan to update the FW using the automatic method and having a friend program the cluster to show the nav map.

Has anyone found a way to add sport chrono via clock install and PIWIS?

Lastly - I didn't see it in the thread but the easiest way to see if you have a GPS antenna is to slide plastic cover off on the windshield just to the right of the rearview mirror.

There is no benefit to add Online Services or Connect. I added those to find out if the NAV traffic update would work with the Wi-Fi and it did not. I see an option to add Sport Chrono in PIWIS under Vehicle Order. You are gonna have to test that.

IIRC there is an internal eSIM in the PCM4... Curious what were you looking at or thinking of with regards to Online services or Connect? I had them for the 1 year trial period and they were not very helpful or useful. And, FWIW neither are needed for the Track Precision App.

Re: Sport Chrono add - I saw this in the 981 forum:

In this case you would be better off with a piwis with engineering mode, this way it will no longer require activation codes. Just did this to my Macan 2018 with PCM4.0 with piwis3. I first tried with an original tool without engineering available, so when selecting QR5 sport chrono plus, it would require a code. After I tried with another piwis3 but with engineering mode available, just went and selected the option, no code required, in less that 5 min the option was activated.

This thread is great. I have a 2020 Spyder with no NAV or Porsche Correct or Carplay or anything, but in a very short time using only an SD card now have Android Auto working and have NAV and Maps, but the system thinks I am in California because my car didn;t have the GPS antenna. I'm going to add that next. Right now, it has all been worth it just for the Android Auto. The only slight downside so far is that without the GPS antenna, the car thinks I am in California and keeps resetting my clock.

IIRC you can disable the 'auto clock set' in settings...

IIRC on my GTS the 'auto clock set' checkoff box showed only after @718socal coded my cluster to display maps & Nav. I think GPS antenna is required for time zone but not sure since my car (with CarPlay) had the antenna from factory.

Thanks, but that setting is greyed-out for me. I'm looking around in MIB and my settings to see what I can do until I have the GPS antenna installed.

That because your car is set to "auto time zone" by default. If you code the cluster with PIWIS you gain the ability to de-select "auto time zone" as well as select "auto time". AFAIK there is nothing you can do besides install a GPS antenna or code the cluster to turn off "auto time zone. (or both). MIB AIO expects a GPS antenna.

Thanks. I'm doing with without PIWIS, so looks like the GPS antenna is all the more important now. Annoying to have the clock keep resetting. I'll tackle it this weekend.

Just finished it. Wow, that was much easier than I expected. Anyone with a 718 without NAV should do this. For a grand total of $11 ($0 if you already have a GPS antenna), you get maps/NAV, Android Auto, and Apple Carplay by doing the following:

1) download and unzip the latest MIB file referenced above onto a SD card.
2) Put the SD car into the PCM left slot and let it do its work.

If you don't have a GPS antenna (which you can see in the MIB screen under the navigation menu), then

3) Order the GPS antenna reference above from amazon for $11.
4) pull off the two side trim pieces next to the center console
5) pry up the center sport chrono panel
6) unscrew the 4 torx screws holding in the PCM
Snake the GPS wire down through the sport chrono hole into the PCM area
7) Pull out the PCM and attach the GPS antenna to the back blue connector
8) double sided tape the GPS under sport chrono/speaker cover.
9) put the screws back into the PCM and reattach the three removed trim pieces.

The slowest part, by far, was step 1, but it doesn't require you be there for it, so you can start the download and leave it.

The scariest part was pulling off the trim, especially because I have tons of leather options and was worried that I'd scratch or break something.

I am not bothering with trying to get the NAV in the cluster. I have a 991 with that feature and never have used it. I only use the nav on the PCM. Plus, the complexity seems much higher to do that incremental step for what I see as almost no payoff.

I started this because I was annoyed that my car had buttons for NAV and Map on the dash that did nothing. That, plus I actually did want a nav that would appear on the PCM (either AA or OEM).

Thanks to the MIB devs and @718socal for making this possible. It was a fun and manageable project that really worked.

Happy to hear that more people are getting what they want and DIY. It's all about sharing and helping each other. Again a lot of people work behind the scene to make this happen. You know who you are 👍
