I unequivocally know that the GPS update rate from the car is at best 5Hz. This data is provided by the exlap protocol, which the Track App may subscribe to. I do not know what GPS the track app prefers when it runs with a phone and car GPS available.

Neat if you can use another GPS receiver, I have not looked at the yet but would love to use the 20Hz systems

I have a buddy with a GT4 that runs a Dual GPS and hooks it to his iPhone for TP duties... I will have to look into this more for use with Android!
They even have their own app... Hmmmm!

A car without GPS antenna, but with the Track app, was unable to track location during a free drive in the app.
Seems the car may need the GPS antenna to use track app.

Question for those that have done this the "old" way and are now updating via the new AIO method—is it kosher to drag & drop the original backup files into the "backup" folder in the AIO package? I'd assume there'd be no issue, just want to check to see if anyone's done so.

Yeah I keep backups in triplicate, but also like to have them on the MIB SD card as well just for ease of accessibility; should I ever want to restore, I don't have to break out the SSD I have everything stored on, copy files over, etc.

Whats the advantage doing the old way vs the new way? The functionality is the same, aside from updating MIB and NAV I'm not aware of any difference.

AIO "new way" is more automated. It includes all the patches needed. No need to copy any files. More user friendly. End result is the same

Ok, in that case I wouldn't bother with it. Make a new image of mib with patches on the SD card, but flashing the pcm again isn't changing anything.
