that, and not everyone is fond of full animal skin interiors

I agree that the primary reason for not optioning Leather Dash is to cut costs. This was exactly why I didn’t option it. I set a budget which I wanted to stick to on my build, along with another budget for full PPF, and a full exhaust system (header > back). I have seen some really nice 718 interiors, fully loaded, and although I like/love the way they looked, it’s just not something that would give me a thrill once Im behind the wheel driving; to me its more of a pop and WOW factor for the cars & coffee folk. On the other hand, my money well spent on the other items mentioned above provides me the protection and thrill that no dash option could ever give me, and are equally more thrilling to the same folk.

It’s really a “to each their own” scenario, there is no right or wrong, just what’s right for you.

As we reach almost 4 years since the first 982 Spyders were sold, do you think we’ll start to see a price drop for those falling out of warranty (CPO excluded)?

I doubt it. These cars are pretty well built. As someone who has bought many things knowing the pitfalls and risks (boats, cars, etc), these feel relatively risk free from a reliability standpoint.

Define "drop"?

Market peak was about 2 years ago...but prices seem pretty stable at around 5-10% over MSRP.

I don't believe we'll see any big swings. With production ended and ICE cars being government mandated out of existence suspect these cars will always do well.

981s are still selling around MSRP so I don't expect the bottom to fall out of these any time soon.

there are a bunch around. I walked into my dealership Saturday on a whim and they’ve been sitting on one so I grabbed it.

Would it be appropriate to add a caveat that to get these prices you are referring to very low mileage examples say 1k or less a year, not those that have actually been driven for example 5k per year?

WHAT people actually drive these cars, not just C&C, detailing and asking how much my car is worth on RL. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I think like anything its super dependent on location. I personally have not seen any Spyder or GT4 for under MSRP no matter the mileage but to be fair i also have not looked very hard.

Even "high mileage" cars would have about 35k miles on them and are still going close to MSRP from what I have seen ~$10k below MSRP or 10% depreciation in 7 years or $1,200 a year which strong and not crashing any time soon.

Seriously doubt there will be much depreciation - no more GT4/Spyders being made and no one will want to replace them with 718 EVs. If they get rid of the GTS 4.0 after 2024, that will be the last of the flat 6 mid-engined Porsches, and prices will remain strong. Also 981s aren't exactly super high mileage at 30+k, just not garage queens either.

Sure it's a 2020, but low mileage CPO car coming in around $10k under sticker. Agree overall but I guess there's some deals out there too.

While i dont doubt that there will be some examples of cars selling for under, i mean BAT is a good indication of where private sales sit vs dealership sales, i do think that as we get closer to the end of the Porsche mid-engine ICE cars, prices will just go up. Now i dont expect them to shoot upwards or anything, but if anything i see the 4.0s get treated similar to what the S2000 was for a long time. Some random unicorns going for extravagant amounts, with the rest holding steady at a good value.
