For those interested (specific to the suspension recall), my GT4 was up on the lift this morning and the work was completed in 2 hours

I also had the opportunity to talk to the Master Tech after the fix was complete. First, my SA has always been a saint in all this even though he was given BS info at one point. Anyways, my specific GT4 needed ONLY two bolts and one nut on the rear suspension (passenger side). That's it. Those where the ONLY three defective parts used as part of the suspension recall. He mentioned that every GT4 will have it's own unique scope of work/repair needed. So one GT4 might need more suspension nuts/bolts replaced... some as minimum as mine...

As I think about that... will that be the case for the connecting rod recall. Is it possible only 2 of the 6 connecting rods have the defect and... if that is the case... do you break open an engine to repair 2 rods or just replace the engine at that point???? I can't imagine Porsche using only ONE manufacture/vendor to produce the same parts... probably why some engines were built in different locations, right???

Just got me thinking... that's all...

Like I said, I am not abandoning ship!

(Not counting OEM costs to support another engine 'type" in the After-Sales support side of things)
Easily solved GTS gets GT4 / Spyder mapping. Spyder and GT4 get GT4 RS engine mapping. They will have spent more on the patina PTS April fool marketing campaign.

How can their be no communication? My vin number is right in the middle of recall for Conrods. I have ZERO interest in a car that does not have a factory engine. If they open the engine on this car it will not be mine.
yep. Exact same situation here. Car in Houston as of last Friday. Have already told SA if my car is tagged for repair over replacement I will turn down and revisit a new build later this year.

I think this is the general consensus for those affected...

Do you forfeit the deposit if you refuse delivery because of the teardown/rebuild?

Not sure, when my order was placed with a commission number I paid a “non refundable” $5k deposit. Given the circumstances, I think the dealership would refund it but I don’t know that for sure. I sincerely hope it doesn’t come to that.

Reading the PCA article, it would appear the initial strategy would be new engines for the cars already delivered and repairs for those which haven’t been delivered but we shall see...

Whether they legally have to or not, a dealer acting in good faith should have no issue refunding your money in a situation like this. Mine indicated that they will, no problem. The reality is they aren't going to be able to deliver the car in the general timeframe (yes, I know it's not a guaranteed date) and condition implied when you gave them your money.

Some may disagree because this is a mechanical issue (requiring heart surgery or transplant), but I'm not sure why. Imagine your dealer calling and saying your new car has arrive, but a tree fell on it in the parking lot. They will make good, though, either by having the body shop pull the dents and respray the paint, or replace the panels, at their discretion. It will be just like new either way, with the same warranty, so no worries! Oh, we just need to keep it a few months before you take delivery, but I'm sure you understand. I'm thinking not one person on this forum would find that acceptable.

I guess your analogy here is assuming that the damage has been done and decision to replace vs repair is up for consideration. The current problem, if we were to use your tree analogy, is "we think a tree may have fallen on your vehicle, we think there may be damage, but can't see any thus far, so out of abundance of precaution, we will either replace the potentially affected panel vs buffing and polishing the panel". Not apples to apples, I think.

there’s still wiggle room:

For customers whose cars have not been delivered and are being held at port as part of the stop sale, we are currently determining the best solution with the highest degree of safety and quality that they have come to expect from Porsche

I just spoke with the GM of my local dealer. He read me a letter he received today which will be sent to current owners and to those of us awaiting delivery. The letter confirms most of the discussion here, with two things worth noting: 1) Development of a technical solution is still in process, and 2) anticipated delivery delay of 3-6 months!!

I spoke with my SA this week, my car should go into production on 4/9/21 and he said to expect no delays due to the stop sale.

I guess on the bright side, that gives for those of us who have not paid for it already some more time to invest that money else well for extra income . Trying to make lemonade out of lemons for now
