Stop Sale on 718 GTS, Spyder & GT4
#856
For those interested (specific to the suspension recall), my GT4 was up on the lift this morning and the work was completed in 2 hours
I also had the opportunity to talk to the Master Tech after the fix was complete. First, my SA has always been a saint in all this even though he was given BS info at one point. Anyways, my specific GT4 needed ONLY two bolts and one nut on the rear suspension (passenger side). That's it. Those where the ONLY three defective parts used as part of the suspension recall. He mentioned that every GT4 will have it's own unique scope of work/repair needed. So one GT4 might need more suspension nuts/bolts replaced... some as minimum as mine...
As I think about that... will that be the case for the connecting rod recall. Is it possible only 2 of the 6 connecting rods have the defect and... if that is the case... do you break open an engine to repair 2 rods or just replace the engine at that point???? I can't imagine Porsche using only ONE manufacture/vendor to produce the same parts... probably why some engines were built in different locations, right???
Just got me thinking... that's all...
Like I said, I am not abandoning ship!

That would be so nice if it could happen. Sadly, in the U.S. anyway, that would require a new certification for each combination of ("B spec") engine/transmission and chassis to satisfy the EPA and others. Not sure what that costs now, but it used to be north of $US 1 million some years back for each combination. (Not counting OEM costs to support another engine 'type" in the After-Sales support side of things)

My gts arrived at port last Friday. I have called SA several times before and after arrival - was told not sure what is happening just be patient.
How can their be no communication? My vin number is right in the middle of recall for Conrods. I have ZERO interest in a car that does not have a factory engine. If they open the engine on this car it will not be mine.

Some may disagree because this is a mechanical issue (requiring heart surgery or transplant), but I'm not sure why. Imagine your dealer calling and saying your new car has arrive, but a tree fell on it in the parking lot. They will make good, though, either by having the body shop pull the dents and respray the paint, or replace the panels, at their discretion. It will be just like new either way, with the same warranty, so no worries! Oh, we just need to keep it a few months before you take delivery, but I'm sure you understand. I'm thinking not one person on this forum would find that acceptable.

there’s still wiggle room:
For customers whose cars have not been delivered and are being held at port as part of the stop sale, we are currently determining the best solution with the highest degree of safety and quality that they have come to expect from Porsche

I just spoke with the GM of my local dealer. He read me a letter he received today which will be sent to current owners and to those of us awaiting delivery. The letter confirms most of the discussion here, with two things worth noting: 1) Development of a technical solution is still in process, and 2) anticipated delivery delay of 3-6 months!!
