I have definitely not learned to hate it less, after 9 months. I'm trying to teach myself to be deaf to it, but not much luck. Absolutely ridiculous to have to put up with such a "BBs in a can" sound in a $110K car.

i’m not sure if the ticking noise some people are complaining about is the same as the whirring/chirping noise I am hearing. But something I did notice the other day is that the noise gets louder and softer depending on whether I have the air conditioning engaged or not. Louder with a/c on and immediately diminishes with a/c off. I am hoping this is some type of pulley related issue that when under load gets louder. Time will tell.

Walked into the garage yesterday, held down the unlock button to free the top and open the trunk. Suddenly that familiar chirping started! I thought, "Oh now it's gonna' chirp without actually starting the engine?"
Angry thoughts rushed my mind.
Turned out there was a panicked female Cardinal stuck in my garage who chirped at the very same frequency as my Spyder. In retrospect, I should have recorded her.

The list of possible reasons grows by the day!

Funny you should ask that. I just got the car back today after a visit to the dealership I bought it from where my technician friend does NOT work. They basically said they compared it to another 4 L engine that makes the same noise and because of that it must be normal. I expected nothing more.

Now that I have all of my delivery-related items taken care of, I will be seeking the advice of the dealership I usually work with where my friend DOES work and see what I can find out. I can create the sound on demand and I would at least like to know its source, even if it doesn’t result in a repair. Somebody German knows the answer.

SpyderSenseOC: Wondering if you ever received feedback from your friend regarding the source of the ticking. I'm close to 17k and while ticking is the "norm" it's becoming sporadic with no rhyme or reason why it stops ticking. Thanks!

Try to see if there is a correlation between noise occurrence/level, and ambient temperature. That said, given that this noise has been reported in this car, the prior gen GT4, and prior gen 911s, it may be time to start drawing some conclusions.

Not yet. I'll try to get down there this week.

5/50 in 991.2 helped quiet things down.

Tu put some fun to the topic.
Did any one try to open door(s) and see what happens with the ticking?

In my GT4 it's LOUDER if I open the driver's door on Cold-Start-Up.

I'm not concerned how cold engine sounds.
This is kind of funny. I don't get ticking unless I turn on the AC or open a door. Looks like the engine load is causing this.

But not talking about the ticking most of users are hearing. What I didn't hear anywhere else is a random click noise coming from the left side. Happens only when the engine is warm.
First I thought of the heat pings. But all this is gone when the engine is turned off.

Anyone else is hearing this?

It seems that one man's tick is another man's chirp, but yup, mine does that too.
