Oh yes, I like this, thicker oil... at least in 2020 5W-40 is a specified weight, I may need to try this!

I've been driving it just about every 2 out of 3 days since I got it, so regularly enough. Even so, today I did try out that trick you posted there, but unsurprisingly didn't seem to make a difference.

Still anxiously waiting for an update from SPYDERJAILA.

There are several kinds of ticking to be differed :

(1) The very common idle speed ticking - that does not disappear but even increase when the engine is heated up - but sometimes decreases after some thousend miles and could become quieter with higher oil viscosity. There are numerous posts, soundfiles and videoclips about this ticking and its reasons.
(2) Ticking occuring after start of a cold engine, when the car was not used for some days. Principly this ticking is related to all engines with hydraulic lifters and is caused by a necessary drain of oil included in the lifters of the valves open during the time the engine was stopped. This effect is described in detail in

https://www.718forum.com/threads/dis...d-start.25277/ Post #18

The ticking is absolutely normal and should disappear after a short period of time just by driving.
To fill the lifters by revving at 3000 rpm, when the car is standing (like in the videoclip with the BMW), is a little bit silly : you waste gasoline and generate a useless enviromental pollution.

(3) Other Ticks : ticking of SPYDERJAILA's car matches neither (1) nor (2) : It is not audible at idle speed and it does not disappear with a warmed up engine. Moreover it has another frequency than the
idle speed ticking (1). We have to wait and see what happens with his car.

If you post a soundfile of your car I could analyze incidence and frequency of the ticking.

Market is good for these cars. I suggest you sell and buy something that does not tick. Good luck.

Roger that. However I'd wager that the response will be, "no problem found"...or, "loose header bolts", like I also had.

Here's a couple of audio clips of mine. It ticks at idle and then stops around 1100rpm and then starts ticking again louder at 1900 rpm.

I sent the sound clips to Porsche Orlando and this is what they said

"I just had our Master tech listen and he told me the direct injectors can make that noise especially when the vehicle has not warmed up. Its nothing to worry about all normal."

Mine still ticks like a ****, but it is not as prevalent warmed up. I especially notice this coming home after a drive versus when I leave.

Is there anybody who can tell me, how the engines temperature could affect the loudness of ticking piezo injectors ?
Meanwhile I'm more bothered about these b***s*** statements than about the ticking itself.

Mine did it with the stock exhaust and with the Kline exhaust.
