Crazy talk! The stock exhaust 'sounds great' if you havent tried or heard something better. Its not the aftermarket, its Porsche and EU restrictions that are causing people to look beyond the stock set up - that and the auto-journalists that correctly diagnosed that the 718 GT4 sounds like an anemic vacuum cleaner. A notoriously conservative friend of mine commented on the stock exhaust as 'a nice compromise'... that was all it took for me to swap it out with Kline. Second best mod I did, the first being an adjustable rear toe link, which interestingly you dont think is a required addition to this car. Something tells me you are a 'purist'! Im happy you like your bone stock GT4 and you might be in the majority of people who dont want to fuss around with their cars, but thats not the same as the car sounds great or the car handles really well when in fact there are simple mods that can vastly improve both and bring the car closer to what it should be. Maybe you can start a thread called "Who else loves their bone stock GT4!" and ply your observations there...
+1. From stock to CG OAP & X-Pipe & valve controller is such a jump in enjoyment for me at least. Day and night.
Hear it directly thru the sound symposer you mean?
Actually a lot of intake sound comes in anyway as the air intakes are so close to your ears, and engine sounds through the firewall which is right behind the seats.
Some people like exhaust noise but with the windows up in a Cayman you don't hear much of that anyway. There's no point arguing that there is only one type of enjoyable sound.
My car is stock exhaust and I spent some time really driving the car hard this weekend with the exhaust off for the first time. I have to say, the engine sounds fantastic from inside the car with the exhaust off. It sounds very mechanical, but much smoother than it does with all the brap brap. Sometimes I want the brap brap, but I was surprised and how clean and racy the motor sounded when you can really hear it directly.
Thanks for the excellent reporting !!!
I've listened to every YouTube video I could find and from what I have heard the inside cabin sounds in the 2021 GT4 are more than enough for a Sports Car.
I have the Tee-Shirts for LOUD exhaust as well as Highly Modified cars and they were fun but I'm now past that in my life.
Once again I Thank-You for your Feedback.

I'm looking forward to one day hearing all the feedback in mine.

I read this entire thread. I also owned a 981 Spyder for 3 years and drove a '21 Spyder last week. What's the knock on the 718's factory exhaust setup? How is it inferior to that of the 981 Spyder? Why will I hate it compared to the 981?
The OAPs are very heavily restricted, much more so than on the 981. Swap those out for an aftermarket set and you'll be golden !

Sorry for being so late to the party but "sound symposer?" Am I to believe that Porsche is sending exhaust sounds out through the audio system in the 718?

No, the 718 GTS/GT4/Spyder does not have engine sound through a speaker.
See the first post in the thread below for all the information you need.

The 981 has a more, uh, "gutteral"? sound to it. It's deeper. More burbles, lower tone. The 718 Spyder seems to have a more exotic tone.
The 718 also came to be in a newer era of noise restrictions. So the one you drove, even with the valves open - they're only open full-time when you're at a dead stop. So it sounds great on cold start, sounds great when sitting in a parking lot. But once you start moving, they close (~1500rpm) and don't open until much later (4000-5000rpm depending on gear?) regardless of whether or not you've got the Binoculars button pressed. The only extra noise you're hearing is from the "sound symposer" which sends some extra induction noise into the cabin. By 981 factory sport exhaust standards (base, S, GT4, Spyder) the 718 is pretty tame.
Until I actually owned mine - I didn't really understand... but I've since added an aftermarket valve controller which lets me force the exhaust valves open ALL the time... and it made a HUGE difference. I bought it used off someone here on the forums because I was pretty skeptical it would make all that much of a change (my previous 987.2 with PSE, when it was all stock... valves open/closed was barely any difference)
But IMO it made a pretty BIG difference. NOW it has a great tone ALL the time. This should be the FIRST change you make to the car if you're going for more sound.
wtf is up with the OAP pricing... almost 2k with taxes? for a two feet of pipe come the heck on, this is gouging
gonna have to do the big genetalia mod I guess... ridiculous!
Before you go about that big genetalia mod, just remember those factory OAPs are over 3k per side when we checked during our exhaust development. You'd probably get more than the cost of a new set of aftermarket OAPs if you were to sell them used or simply bring them to a scrap yard, cost of precious metals are waaaay up.

SO do they just make and X-pipe??? This sounds like exactly what I want to do....I was thinking OAP and valve controller only...but adding an X-pipe would really be nice!
