The GT4 drones - anyone who says differently is immune or doesnt know what drone is. There are ways to mitigate the drone like valve controller, symposer delete (very helpful) and adding some dynamat to the engine bay, and avoiding the drone RMP range. But even doing all of this in conjunction with either OEM exhaust or aftermarket mods will only reduce and/or change the tone or intensity of the drone. It can not be eliminated 100%. You just have to live with a certain level of drone.
I had Akrapovic link pipes first, then link pipes with their race slip on. Sounds great at full throttle. Didn't like the sound everywhere else, mostly. Took off the link pipes to reduce volume and see if it changed for the better. Sounds better and better than stock. But still not right, maybe because the race slip on retains mufflers. Or maybe it's the engine.
I had Akra link pipes and race slip on (no mufflers) on my .2 GT3. That sounded epic albeit too loud for all the time driving. So dropped the link pipes. Sounded way better than stock but lost some character from the full setup. Would definitely do the race-slip on a GT3.
Whether the mufflers on the race-slip on make the difference, don't know as Akra doesn't have an unmuffled rear.

Make sure you remove the sound symposer. That is the single biggest change needed IMO.
Hi John
are you guys selling the kit
I have your racing exhaust and I can appreciate less drone

We are working on compiling a kit from readily available components on the market, we look forward to making it available this month. These are parts you can pick up locally at the local auto parts or department store, and are detailed in the thread from us and others that have been performing the mod
Just installed the CG OAP with OPF in my Spyder. Already had the CG X-Pipe race exhaust and valve controller. This is it for me. The sound is just amazing without being obnoxious at all. I highly recommend this setup - it has punch, the right tone, whilst being very livable too. I could only compared it with a GT4 with CG valve and X-Pipe exhaust and the difference is very noticeable. Cheers!

Did you do the opf delete or the flow optimized OAP?

Flow optimized OAP. I am in love with it. Adding the CG OAP to the "CG X-Pipe & valve controller" mix is such a jump in sound experience... Comments from random people along the lines: "Is this a NA V8?", "this car must be in the $250k?" or from a stock GT4 owner: "tell me exactly what you have done to your car".
I have Fabspeed OAP's and was thinking of adding catted 200 cel headers and leaving the rear section stock. Does anyone run this combo? Video clip would be appreciated. Thank you
My 2 cents on drone: I was concerned before my system arrived about drone because of the “drone thread” on this forum. I was planning all the plugs and insulation tricks etc. However, after my SOUL race headers, SOUL OAP’s, and SOUL Valved Exhaust install and a few hundred miles, I am pleasantly surprised to share minimal if any drone.
Define drone for me: “Low, deep audible echo sound that hurts your ears or makes you feel like you are in a tunnel. It penetrates all
through the cabin.”
My experience is the SOUL system is tuned for a higher pitch. Absolutely love the F1 like sound. Trying to drive speed limit, in high gear, I can hardly produce drone when trying to. Zero deep-echo-tunnel-resonance on my set up. I attached videos external, internal, Windows up, and at start up. A cold morning start when car revs high for 30 seconds is the closest I have come to any drone. And that’s with valves fully open.
Maybe those who don’t do the full exhaust are creating more pressure points and it’s boomy in the cabin. Crazy to think a catless system solves the drone issue. At normal speeds, I can drive under the radar w/o raising an eyebrow. The optional valves for me are solely for my neighbors on those rare early morning start ups. Otherwise, fully open for me all the time.
My SOUL set up has the right amount of deep base and high pitch that puts my GT4 in Exotic mode. Loving it. The 21whp gains aren’t bad either. (More gains in real world conditions)
Final dyno pull with Softronic ECU tune is about to be documented and posted on my thread.

As you are clearly a man who believes in measuring and testing stuff, any chance you would try your car with the stock exhaust tips attached?
Since people have found drone with the Soul and other setups but generally they run the stock tips so I wonder if these could be making the difference.
Before you laugh, a couple years ago on my 981 Cayman I noticed quite a bit of drone after I went to race headers and it (unexpectedly) all but disappeared when I changed to a different exhaust tip. Somehow the shape and/or diameter of the exits can make a real difference in the resonance.
I guess I'm getting old.... the system I loved was my Fabspeed "race" headers with stock PSE mufflers on my old 987.2. Valves closed, car was silent. Valves opened, sounded like a mini Cup car.
I haven't heard anything that gets me that experience with the GT4/Spyder. I installed a Soul valve controller a few weeks ago.... and I'm stopping there. Just enough "tone" for me, loud enough that I generally still close the valves when rolling through my neighborhood. I was pretty surprised at the difference it made just keeping the valves open above 1500rpm.

Spend the extra and get a Dundon system. I’ve had their systems in 4 different cars. Zero complaints.

I’d like to help, but I probably won’t go unpack the oem tips from storage. The tips are just clamps that bolt on the permanent diameter opening of the exhaust exit. The sound and audible tuning are coming from each manufacturers custom design. Interesting about your experience. I don’t think any change would occur with decorative bolt on tips which they all are.
I read this entire thread. I also owned a 981 Spyder for 3 years and drove a '21 Spyder last week. What's the knock on the 718's factory exhaust setup? How is it inferior to that of the 981 Spyder? Why will I hate it compared to the 981?
