The 2020 owners manual lists 5w40 as warranty approved... unless Porsche has officially rescinded that approval. This opens op a number of other oils, Motul and Liqui Moly to name a couple.

58 quarts, now we know why there is nothing on the shelf!
BTW no need to shout...

I didn't know about VW. That is closer to my house - thanks.
Since many Porsche dealerships share dealership space with Audi and/or VW and yet have been forced to use A40 oil when they service cars, I suppose it must be because those oils are out of stock as well as the Mobil 1 that Porsche sells. Or Porsche decided it was a bad look to use Audi or VW oil...

Can be ordered online too. Google the Audi part number.

Alternatively, you can adjust you device font and size for your ease of reading.
Also believe 2022 and above dropped the 5W-40 from the C40 recommendation.

Stopped by my local auto parts store today, and they have the other “non X3” M1 ESP 0w40. Looked a bit like older M1 bottles. I checked online at Mobil website and looks like these 2 versions have different chemical properties.

I just stopped by my local dealer to buy some oil as break in ate about 2/3rds of my oil. I let them tell me what oil I should get. Parts girl didn't know off the top of her head, looked it up and gave me a bottle of C40. Then said it was on the house. So +1 for them.

So, I have 6,000 miles on my car and have added a quart already, and the gauge is below midway, so I bit the bullet and ordered 4 liters from Porsche at $20 a pop...not the best solution, but I cannot find C40 anywhere and I don't have time to go running around any more than I have already to find it, unfortunately. Local auto store chains had nothing...just 0-30W and European Formula types, but nothing that was labeled C40. This will give me peace of mind and a hole in my wallet

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and I did the free 1 year service. When I was done and about to leave go to chatting with my advisor about oil consumption and as I was getting up to leave, he gave me a quart on the house. Not saying every service advisor will give out free oil but if you're low, try popping into your local dealer and ask them to add a little bit.
Both instances, the service advisors were very nice about it.
