I still don't understand why the manual changed for 2022 and eliminated the 5W-40 as an option. Naturally, if you are in climates above -15*F, using 5W instead of 0W shouldn't make a difference.

I see that NHTS list and others don't include Motul yet. I think it's new. Thanks for posting that info @TXshaggy . For some reason it won't search on my VIN. But I'm having internet issues today. Time to call cable and threaten to switch to Verizon, which I think I may do at this point!
Agreed Porsche wouldn't adjust the OM based on supply, but it does make one wonder why the 2022+ OM no longer lists 5W-40 weight as appropriate...

I see that Motul lists lists the C40 spec in the technical data sheet:

Yup, I have Motul in the garage. It's a quality brand for sure, all the Porsche race shops I know recommend all Motul fluids, so I'm comfortable at this point. I still would love to know why the change at Porsche from 0W to 5W oils in 2022.

All this oil talk, sometimes I wonder if the neighbor who leases his/her Porsche every 3 years and just drives it like, oh, a car, without so much as a thought about water spots, engine warm ups, road salt, let alone oil, if that person is happier. I even know a few with IMS bearings in their engines. I don't have the heart to tell them of the ticking time bomb that they are unaware of! (Meanwhile, some 92-98% of IMS bearings never had a problem, BUT IT COULD HAPPEN and they should be worried like us! hehehe)

Default Wow, after reading in my owner's manual...

...for my 2019 Cayenne Turbo that 'C40' oil is 'required' for this TT 4.0L 541HP engine, I started looking.. (Seems my 'A40' Castrol Edge Euro Car SAE 5W-40 A3/B4 is NOT C40-approved.. Too bad I have lots of it; I'll feed the Cayman with it. 😃 )

As the saying goes; "Ignorance is Bliss!"

Sometimes I wish I could be that way, I even try sometimes, tear open the cookie boxes from the wrong end, rip open the potato bag with abandon... then it strikes! FUD

And I go back to being my old self, OCD about warming the car before I drive (only on salt free roads of course), washing the car when I return and yes, wondering about the C40 and weight specs for the oil in my Spyder.

Nooooooooo

(PS Don't warm up the car idling for more than a minute or so. Get in and drive (gently) it to warm it up. Idling to warm up is not good, especially for modern engines that can adjust A/F ratios on the fly. Idling too much splashes too much fuel into the combustion chamber which washes the walls which causes bore scoring. Just drive it.)
(See, my OCD couldn't let that comment slide.)

The list gets updated multiple times a year. If the oil says C40, then likely good to go.

Think entering VIN in the NHTSA Recall website is looking for recall info attached to you VIN…nothing probably good.

LOL, I know, I know... I let it come off fast idle then drive on!

OK; thx.

Found some M1 ESP X3 (edit)0W-40 at https://www.evolubesupply.com/mobil-...bottle-124798/
Two 6-packs were $116.44 delivered or $9.70 per quart.. I guess I'll be an M1 guy again!

You mean 0W not 5W. Right? I don't think there is a 5W-40 Mobile 1 in C40 spec

It is stunning the number of people (including "car guys") I've run into that still insist you MUST warm your car up for anywhere from multiple minutes to TENS of minutes before driving it. Look, I get if you don't have a garage and live where winter temps are 5F and need that time just to get the defrosters working. But anyone who says that modern engines need to warm up really AT ALL are doing themselves, their cars, and the environment a disservice. The owner's manual for my AMG specifically stated in bold letters: "DO NOT IDLE: Drive off immediately after starting. Keep engine RPM under 3.5k until engine reaches operating temperature".

I see that Motul lists lists the C40 spec in the technical data sheet:

Not saying it is related in anyway, but maybe the 2022 change had something to do with the investigation from the 2021 CAM RON recall and stop sell? Just throwing out ideas.

We know that the PCCB brake pads (and probably the steel pads as well) were quietly changed for 2022. I am sure there are a bunch of 2022 changes that happened that were not publicized.

"2021 CAM RON recall and stop sell?"

Are you trying to Con Rod here? IF yes then I doubt oil would have anything to do with it.

Connecting rods were a bad batch of parts detected before most cars were delivered. Not oil related.
