C40 Oil Discussion

I went to the Autozone.com and set my location in OK and got X3 Mobile 1, but I think that's the A40 formula:

Mobile 1 site search engine doesn't even show C40, it suggests this oil for our cars:

I understand your skepticism. When I went to my local Porsche dealer they gave me the A40 spec. I turned it away and went to Audi.
What I saw at Autozone was a Mobile 1 ESP display with quarts of ESP, ESP X2, and ESP X3 displayed. I turned the quart of ESP X3 around to check for the C40 spec to confirm. I already had a spare quart of the Audi-branded oil in the car, so I did not buy any. What struck me about it was the packaging was slightly different than pictures I had seen on line. The “X3” was a little bigger and was not italicized.
I will swing by tomorrow to take a picture. I hope it does not prove to be an unsubstantiated sighting of a mythical creature but I am pretty certain of what I saw

Oil coats the cylinder walls, and modern piston rings are looser to increase mpg, so a little oil is present in combustion chamber.

The answer starts with understanding the origin of blow-by gases:
https://www.mishimoto.com/engineerin...at-is-blow-by/
and with regulatory requirements to route blow-by gases into the engine’s intake system.
So, some engine oil is always burned. The amount of burned oil will depend upon the effectiveness of an engine’s air/oil separation system plumbed between the crank case and intake.
Minimizing blow-by with very good piston ring sealing is the first step in reducing the volume of blow-by gas which then relieves stress on the separation system and results in less oil reintroduced to the intake system.
Burning motor oil is very bad for emissions testing, efficiency, and power. Reducing blow-by via better ring sealing and increasing the effectiveness of engine air/oil separating systems has been a sink for a lot of ICE development dollars for a very long time. It’s not easy to do and also keep bean counters happy.

Please forgive my cynicism but I seriously doubt it is porsche C40 spec. I've seen too many claims it is that turn out to be C40 when in reality it's A40. I checked Autozone's website and they don't have any Mobil 1 oil that fits my GTS 4.0. Can you post a pic of the container showing the C40 spec on it?

My lovely wife selflessly dropped by our local Autozone this morning (a place she has probably never been) to get me these pictures. You are right that C40 spec oil does not show up on their website, but I can confirm the sighting on their shelves...

Now, take her out for dinner!

Thanks for the tip - I found a few quarts at local Autozone too. They don't have them inventoried correctly, so you have to check in person.

Is there a difference between "Mobil 1 ESP X3" and "Mobil 1 ESP" without "X3" designation? I've seen both bottles.
