our US cars got GPF , it’s just not monitored by engine, it will clog gif using not specific low ash oils

Curious why you seem to want to use A40 when C40 is available, why use the incorrect oil?

One thing not mentioned in this thread, the C40 oil reduces the chance of LSPI (low speed pre-ignition), although the new piezoelectric coils also do this, I'm told. Also, use of A40 in cars calling for C40 might void the warranty should an engine-related problem arise. Just how much importance all these things command is subject to debate. The NA cars indeed have the GPF but it doesn't have the coating and the sensor like the European cars do. So, if you use A40 oil chances are nothing bad will happen, but then...

I cannot determine if the backward compatibility issue relates to mixing with A40 oil or use in older cars, it us really still a mystery. I have 24 quarts of A40 oil on hand which I was planning to use in my new CGTS 4.0 but now I guess I need to find someone with an older Porsche to sell it to.

I heard somewhere that over 70% of all Porsches ever made are still on the road... shouldn't be too hard to find a buyer!

Yeah, Porsche puts out that statistic, but I imagine its pretty close to correct. I'll reach out to some PCA members in my chapter about getting a bargain in some oil.

I’m not interested. Was just thinking if a dealer puts a40 in and you have the OPF delete pipes then one should be okay. I plan on putting C40 into my car even when I get the OAPs fitted.

IMHO, if A40 ends up in the crankcase for a cycle it’s pretty much irrelevant. Quite honestly, if it were really an issue, meaning it could potentially cause PCNA money via warranty claims, they wouldn’t be taking such a casual position.

The “need” really boils down to the owner, us, having the piece of mind it’s being serviced as prescribed and as mentioned in a different thread, having the proof we didn’t depart from the factory requirements if we are doing our own maintenance.

Honestly, all of the people here are departing from the prescribed maintenance, if we simply leave the factory fill in the car until 1 year or 10K miles it’s likely all dealers will have C40 on the shelf and it’s a moot point.

Just a quick PSA. I was able to pick up Mobil 1 X3/C40 from my local dealer (Porsche St. Paul). They said they just received it in last week so hopefully this means all Porsche dealers will be stocked with it soon/if not already. If you haven't checked your local dealer in a little while, it would be a good time to try again.

May we ask what they are charging for the Mobil 1 ESP X3, Porsche C40-approved oil?

$11.xx after tax (roughly 7% here) per quart.

Interesting. Far better than the $20 - 40 per liter that we were hearing about a few weeks ago. Maybe Porsche is finally getting their act together here in North America wrt the proper oil to use in these new cars.

Yah, I didn't think it was bad at all. The ESP A40 Mobil 1 Dexos 2 I could get around 7-8$ a quart if I bought it by the case from my Chevy dealer though.

But, agreed, I'm just glad they had it and at a reasonable price.

The Chevy dealer has 0w-40 with a C40 spec?

Can you supply me with your part number for the oil, because I have yet to find it on your website. I can't enter a 2021 718 GTS 4.0 in your search criteria.

Well, check that, I found the oil(I think), but had to enter a 2019 911 in order to do so. I can't pull up any Porsche using 2020 or 2021 model years. I'm not sure the Lubro Moly that came up is C40 oil.
