^^^. Agree with the 450hp speculation. That feels right. Cannot imagine Porsche allowing it to get close to a GT3. For me the PDK with improved gearing over the mania should make it quite the catch. I speculate release in Q1 2021 with U.S. deliveries in late 2021. No idea on model year. All this could change baes on release of 992 GT3. With COVID it's anyone's guess on release dates.

Sorry but that is total BS. I will be happy to bet you $1000 that your friend is wrong. I can't tell you how many people quote their friend in Porsche, at the dealer, in motorsport, etc.......but are still wrong when the official details are released. I saw this happen with the 992 carrera, the 991.2 GT cars, the 991.1 GT cars, and the 997 GT cars
Porsche is very careful about maintaining the hierarchy of the various model lines. The GT4RS won't get 490 hp. It won't even get 480hp. 450 is much more likely. People will still line up to buy it even at 450 HP if it is special/limited, particularly if it comes with PDK-S, which I hope it does.

The limit on torque is the 6 speed manual.
The reason the GT3RS only got 20 more hp is because there was not much left in the motor at least reliably and within emissions regs. Looking at dynos, the GT3 and GT3RS are even closer than they appear on paper powerwise. That’s why 991.3 GT3RS and speedy got ITBs just to keep 520 (or 510 for speedy).
The GT4 engine is the same displacement, the limit on torque is the 6MT, and I believe in Chris so 475 and PDK only seems right. How they are going to do better on the 992 GT3 and GT3RS is what’s interesting to me. More than 525hp from a 6 cylinder 4.0 NA within current regulations (emissions, noise) is hard so where does that leave the GT3RS? 4.2? Electric boost?

You are all thinking about this car in the wrong context. It’s more like the 997 RS 4.0 was to the regular RS. It had almost 50hp more than the 3.8. The GT4 RS is an end of the generation car. The swan song to the 718 platform just like the 997 GT3 RS 4.0l was. It’s going to be special.

I doubt they do limited production. It’s a swan song but it’s the end of an entire era of N/A caymans with no electric or hybrid assist. It’s not a simple GT4 was 3.8 and here’s a limited run of GT4.0 or like the Carerra RS with the 2.8 option. It’s still a full fledged RS to the base car. I expect production numbers to be at least half of the GT4. Maybe 4000 units or so.

Here is an idea. DOT regulations allow for an OEM roll cage (similar to the BMW) if it is kept / limited to 500 or less; I believe.
That way one could get the complete Club Sport / Weissach package. Fitting for the end of a generation car.

The issue Porsche face is lack of torque delivered by the 982/718 4L, unless there is a significant boost in torque across the rev range the GT4 RS will be stillborn - no point in the GT4 RS if it still maintains peak torque ~ 420Nm and basically adds 20-30 HP to the top end through minor additional revs. The outcome will be polar, they will either knock it out of the park or it will be meh. The GT4 RS should be the best a GT4 can be and I see no reason why Porsche would let the GT3 be an impediment to that - after all its become a lounge mobile and in 992 guise it will be an even bigger lounge mobile.
