Looks like someone caught it on NBR without all that cladding on the rear wing.

That is grotesque. Unless I am getting paid to turn lap times there’s no way my automobile would suffer such visual mutilations.

I read on a 992 GT3 blog that apparently Porsche may be using this design for the rear wing because of aerodynamic reasons where the wing mounts are on the top of the wing vs on the underside because by being on top, the air flowing under the wing is uninterrupted and therefore flowing faster than the top which has the mounts to disrupt the air. With the air underneath flowing faster and smoother, it helps to create downforce.

Well this wing design has been present in top tier sportscar racing for some time so I don’t deny there are valid technical merits, but my point stands... there is a compromise on a street car where aesthetics must still play a part, and this is not really viable from that perspective.

I agree it’s not the prettiest of wings for a street car but it looks like this is the direction for Porsche at least based on the spy pics for the GT4 RS and 992 GT3. That is seriously one large wing and those end plates are huge too. I guess the alternative could be a more regular sized and designed wing with some sort of active element where there are flaps and such that open and close and vent air in and out of the mounts but to engineer such a system for what I assume will be a low volume vehicle will drastically increase the price of the GT4 RS.

I also wonder if Porsche does go this route and increase rear downforce, what are they going to add or redesign in the front to provide balancing front downforce? That front lip on the GT4 is already pretty large so do they add front flicks? I thought I saw some spy pics with front naca ducts in the frunk for brake cooling but didn’t really see anything else that was different about the front end.

I'm sure it's functional, but I prefer the look of the GT4 wing.

That black car has the GT3RS hood which includes the NACA ducts for the brakes...if they are indeed used like in the GT3RS and cup cars those help produce downforce.

Curiously...the GT4 is the only Porsche with a race seat (you can pause the video and see the side wings), you can also see the front section of a roll cage....all the other P test cars with regular seats.

Don’t they need a race seat and cage when going for official lap times?
