Seeing some posts about the debris hitting the car reminded me that long ago I read somewhere that Porsche offered full or partial Clear Bra installed from factory, but not sure if it was true or only certain cars? Has that ever been an option?
It's the first time I ever noticed it. Pretty sure it wasn't an option for the 991 GT3.
Yea I think it became available with the 992, but I wonder if it could be an option for any car if you payed for it, sort of like a CCX Option or something.
Probably not a big deal for most people in Europe / USA but for someone like me in South America, where we don't have these expert shops it would be nice.
Overall I love this car (kudos to Porsche), but am I alone in being disappointed in the way it upshifts? For comparison, a GT3 on the front straight of a racetrack sounds amazing.... Rifle bolt shifts like a sequential... I am just not hearing that in any of these recent videos (both spy and promotional). I assume that is just a difference in the ECU tuning? I have noticed the same thing on the videos of the C8 Z06.
Someone posted this image in the “Configurator” thread, but thought others would like to see it that didn’t happen to look there…. This should be what the non-Weissach Package intake looks like. It’s a shot of the Club Sport, so should be accurate.

The lack of a manual makes me not want to consider the RS. I think the regular GT4 is enough for me.
Dealer said, there is a 25 person wait list and they only have one allocation. Are any of these selling at MSRP? I'm seeing used start to pop up but there is no way I'm paying over MSRP for used.
I didn't think I would be interested in the GT4RS given that it was expected to be PDK only and I've been happily driving my 6MT GT4. However, I really like what they've done and the addition of the WP. So I reached out to my dealer (I'm already #1 on the list for the Spyder RS) and asked about the current list for the GT4RS. He says there's 8 people on it already. I told him to put me on the list and get in writing it's for MSRP. If AP is right and it's a 2.5 year production, then I'll be fine getting it later. I'll be trading in my GT4 for the GT4RS if I decide to go ahead with the purchase (and if I get an allocation). I'll miss the 6MT, but that GT4RS is HOT!
I still don't think it will be worse than any Boxster with the top up.
I doubt it is any worse than a Boxster, but the point is, it is now as bad as a Boxster.

The typical 'blind spot' you may be thinking about would be mitigated by the aspherical mirror, but that is not what I a referring to, it is that area of view for example 50 yards out from the side of the car in that direction. My 1990 RX-7 coupe had the same problem and no mirror will really help.
Well nothing is perfect, but I’ve been through a lot of Porsches in the last 20+ years and I am both astonished and delighted that Porsche finally gave the Cayman its full measure with the GT3 mill. One can nitpick, but this is a very special car at a surprisingly reasonable price all things considered. I owned an 06 Cayman S and back then the forums were filled put downs about the “boxster coupe” costing more than the Boxster (convertible). The Cayman GT4RS has certainly come a long, long way. AP and company are to be congratulated.
The biggest challenges that I have experienced with centerlocks is a) you have to activate the brakes to provide enough counter force, so either a person or a clamp on the brake pedal (and this is totally a problem for bleeding brake / changing pads), and b) the force needed to loosen and torque the nuts, and the challenge to keep the front wheels straight without the steering wheel locked or someone holding it.
A cheaper solution, but also way more costly than it should be, is the renntorque unit. it's both a torque multiplier, and it uses your wheel to provide the counter force. So very low force (~120lbs with a regular torque wrench) no person, no clamp, no issues with bleeding or changing pads, etc.
I'm going ghetto - which is a $300 torque multiplier that uses the floor to react, 3/4" digital torque gauge, my old Snapon 1/2" beam torque wrench, and a woodworking clamp.
ENNtorq Center Lock Tool V2 for 992/991/997 applications
RENNtorq Center Lock Tool V2 for 992/991/997 applications
$2,200.00
1 Add to Cart$2,200.00DescriptionThe RENNtorq Center Lock Tool V2 is an innovative system for Porsche centerlock nut removal and installation. The system uses a precision torque multiplier, in conjunction with a custom reaction arm specifically sized for 992/991/997 applications, to greatly reduce the amount of input torque required to loosen and tighten the factory centerlock nut.
A motorsport grade torque multiplier is used to convert 95 lb-ft of manual input torque to 443 lb-ft of output torque. The multiplier has a 1/2" drive input, and a 3/4" drive output which allows for a direct connection to the factory supplied socket. Each multiplier is tested and certified to a specific multiplication factor (range of 4.70:1 - 4.75:1) which allows you to precisely calculate the input torque required to secure the center lock nut. The custom reaction arm counteracts the torque applied to the nut by applying a counter force to the spoke of the wheel. The reaction arm is covered with a polymer material strong enough to apply the required force, but soft enough to eliminate any risk of wheel damage.
The system allows you to easily remove the center lock nut with just a conventional 20" long, 1/2" drive breaker bar/torque wrench with an amount of force similar to what is required to remove a lug on a car with a regular five lug bolt system. The RENNtorq tool requires only moderate pressure be applied to the brake pedal inside the car, meaning the car does NOT need to be running, and you do not require the assistance of a second person to either press the brake hard or hold the steering wheel steady.
The price includes a sturdy carrying case, custom certification for each tool, and shipping with USPS priority service (within the USA).
With this tool you will now look forward to wheel changes on your GT3/Turbo S/GTS.
