Going from 6th to 7th gear, you go from a ratio of 0.88 to 0.71. That’s a drop from 8000 RPM in 6th to 6450 RPM in 7th. That’s a drop of 1550 RPM, much less than 2200.
It would be interesting if Porsche changes the final drive to make 7th a performance gear rather than an overdrive in the GT4 RS. The spacing between 6th and 7th on the GT4 is right in line with spacing between the other gears, so it should be possible to do this.

First of all, the car cannot hit 8,000 rpm in 6th gear - it tops out at 188 mph at 7,462 rpm (aero drag limited). So, when you shift into 7th gear and hit 6,013 rpm on the change, the rev drop is 1,449 rpm with the new lower 7th gear (or the rev drop is down to 5,251 rpm in the old PDK from the GTS, a drop of 2,211 rpm). Sorry for the mistake, but rev drop is not half as much (it's around 34% smaller, a much bigger change than I originally said).

If cost is not an impediment, they should re-gear the whole stack closer together than the above (like they did on the PDK in the GT3).

I did make one error:

With european manufactures going all electric in the near future this might be the last of line for Cayman/boxster.
Once the 2022 Cayman RS is launched as the last of the 718 chassis, it is anybodys guess if they will launch a new chassis to get another 5 years from it.
Where does Porsche go after the 992.2 and the 718.2?

718 is part of the Boxster/Cayman marketing name. The Porsche chassis code is 982.
AP has already said the 4.0 will soldier on; so have a hint there that there’ll be another iteration…perhaps hybrid on some trim levels but that will be heavy. They can squeeze more out of the small turbos and GPFs meet EU particulate requirements. Porsche will focus of sedan/suv EV/hybridization for corporate emissions in the near term.
