Maybe they'll also add the electronically controlled LSD like in the PDK version of the GT3.

I think the 8spd would add even more weight.
On the regular variants, top gear is overdrive but on the GT models, top speed is reached in top gear.

Not on the GT4, afaik

Only on models where they call it PDK-S…

Here is an email I received when I reached out to PCNA before the PDK was released and I believe I've read it too in their press release.

***Thank you for your e-mail, and your interest in Porsche. While I have no information on gear ratios on the 718 Spyder equipped with the optional PDK, it appears that the PDK on the GT version of 718 (GT4 and Spyder) will reach their top track speed in 7th gear, which is typical of past GT models such as the 911 GT3, GT3 RS and GT2 RS.

Kind regards,

Frank

It supposed to be the same as in the street car wit the exception of 7th being locked out permanently.

This email (while I’m glad they were so responsive to your inquiry) is a bit vague in predicting the final result.

My understanding is that things did not end up this way. I’ve seen the numbers months ago (and don’t remember where). Maybe someone can post (and my apologies if I’m wrong).

For the current 718 Clubsport, it uses the PDK from the base 981. 7th gear is locked out by programming. There are a few motorsports parts like the diff, but otherwise it's the same.

It's a PDK, not a sequential

Edit: unintended repeat of the above post

We can figure this out very easily ourselves. With your PDK Spyder (same gearing as PDK GT4), drive in 6th gear on the highway and note the speed on the digital speedo when the tach is right at 2,000 rpm and then do the same in 7th gear at 2,000 rpm. Report back with the speeds in 6th and 7th gears at 2k rpm (or any other consistent rpm with which you're comfortable) and we'll take a look at the results and decide which gear will produce a higher top speed in the GT4 (we know Vmax is 188 mph with PDK and 189 mph with Manual and peak horsepower comes at 7,600 rpm per the Porsche website). If the results imply a close call, we can consult the published power curve (but this may not be necessary).

If anyone else can provide this info, thanks in advance.

Bud.....I own a 981 CS....so ya. I've heard all the stories and tales about how the inflection point on them is 10k miles. The PDK's in the Clubsports are one of the least reliable parts in the entire car.

Negative, it will continue to use the current systems.

I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish with all this. 7th gear is going to be a taller gear than 6th. I'm pretty sure you can just look up the ratios to see what RPM you'd be at for 188 mph in either gear. You can almost certainly get there in 6th gear because 7th is meant for cruising at lower RPM's.

If you have the rpm at 188 mph in 6th and 7th, that would be great.

Based on a quick search, it would be 7462 rpm in 6th and 5251 rpm in 7th. That's IF it produces enough power at 5251 to hold that speed in 7th.

Looks like the rear storage compartments are dumped for the new air feed system.
