Northern NJ for me. Working with a large dealer for a GTS allocation at msrp. Waiting since July, expecting allocation by spring at the latest. Worth the wait imo.

There is a huge discrepancy between when you were looking and right now. The GT4's and GTS I mentioned were on lists for let's say a year, got it in writing for MSRP. Not a long purchase history or some VIP blah blah BS. Just regular guys who could afford the car. The purchases were end of year 2021-Q1 2022. One was last month from what the owner told me.

I would say give it a shot again.
Too late for me, I bit the bullet and paid the 25K ADM on a GT4. No doubt overpaid but never gave it a second thought once the car arrived.

The demand for GT cars on the West Coast is far greater then on the East, and demand goes down considerably if you live in the Mid Atlantic region.... like so few, I was lucky enough to even get an allocation, luckier to receive one at no ADM.

Thank you everyone for their response! I know now that I will have to pass on it. I want a GT4 for but at that price like most have said, I could consider other amazing cars in that price range. It sucks we have to pay such a heavy mark up on the cars we want, I understand the market and the shortage but I do feel like some dealers are taking advantage of the situation more than others. For now, I am on people list at other dealers so ill keep waiting until I can get a better deal. Thank you again everyone!

Honestly call around, see what you can find outside your area. Fly and drive or trailer one, or find a lightly used one. it won't be exactly what you want but heck when your behind the wheel will you care if the stitching isn't what you like or other non-driving things relating items/options.

I push back on the idea that at a certain price point, other vehicles could be considered. That line of thinking doesn't apply if you have no interest in other cars. It's ok to be narrowly focused on one vehicle. You want what you want. If you have the means to spend $180K for a GT4 and you're comfortable with the purchase that's all that matters. Don't let other people influence your idea of what something is worth.

What do you guys think of the prices we see on Bring A Trailer? Last couple 982 GT4s with low miles, decent specs, went for close to MSRP -> $10K over. Several 981s been getting $25K below MSRP. There is a nice one going off today with low miles, premium spec.

I think they are coming down to earth a bit. The gentleman looking at that 25K ADM should check out those sale prices. Can get a really nice car, likely well maintained with a few thousand miles and not pay 25K ADM. The 981's are now well 100K as well.

im looking at beginning of Nov. to now.

Just look at the above. 2K mile car, sold for a few grand over MSRP.

As someone who owns a 981 GT4 and a 718 Spyder the 981 GT4 is one of the best kept secrets right now that people don't realize how good it really is. I'm actually planning on selling my 718 Spyder in the next 6months and keeping the 981 GT4 because it feels that much more special and much more raw to drive(clutch is stiffer, steering feels better, more noises in the cabin, shifter feels less "refined") while the 718 just feels more daily friendly.

I have a feeling once people learn how good the 981 GT4's are they will go up in value and the spread between the 718/981 GT4's will be much closer.

The 4.0 is worth the price of admission alone. Lots going for it in this generation than the original. The 981 was cool until the 718 came along, IMO. For me it’s 718 or bust.

More options is never a bad thing, though.

Having both the 4.0 and 3.8 in my garage and living right next to some of the best canyons roads in America where I can drive both back to back I don't think it's a difference that warrants 30k+. Sure it's a 4.0 but it's not a GT3 4.0 and all you really feel is the slight increase in torque, sure its noticeable but its not worth a 30k+ premium especially when the 981 feels more raw and sounds much better. I think once people realize how good the 981 GT4's are the difference will settle around 15-20k max between the generations.

Not sure what else is really going for it unless you track multiple times a month. That's my 2cents after owning both and using them as pure weekend canyon carvers and choosing to keep the 981 GT4 when I go to sell the Spyder in 6months to pickup something with a real 4.0 GT3 engine.

idk, I drove a 981 GTS and then a 718 GTS 4.0 back to back (dealer had them both), and it just felt like the 981 is so much heavier (not sure it is even true, but that's how it felt). It felt less precise and overall just vaguer.

You can't compare a GTS product vs a GT product, whole different worlds.

I didn't, read it again. I compared a GTS to a GTS.

Used 718 GT4 with PDK (no LWB, no PCCB) are going for $130-140K USD
