As a Chief Engineer/VP for a supplier into the global automotive manufacturing industry, I have access to historical and forecasted build data. All 9A2 evo 4.0 NA engines are produced in Zuffenhausen. They forecast 1,612 for Boxsters in ‘22, and 1,535 in ‘23, with 0 in 24. Boxster EOP (end of production) is scheduled for 12/23. For Caymans; 996 in ‘22, 1049 in ‘23, and 1028 in ‘24. Cayman EOP is scheduled for 3/24. The data source is used throughout the industry and major manufacturers use it for internal mid and long-term planning. Having said all that, VW/Porsche are in the drivers seat and can change direction, ie, 2.5T H4 > 4.0 NA H6.

They're always at the top of the charts with pricing. At least with their asks. No idea what the actually end up selling cars for.

Are you sure? They typically make more GT4's than Spyders with at least a 2:1 split but your data is stating the opposite of what is historically true. Unless I'm reading your data incorrectly but you're saying they will make 1,612 4.0 Boxsters but only 996 4.0 Caymans.

Saying Boxster and Cayman is not the same as Spyder and GT4.

GT4RS in production, so perhaps they’re drawing those allocations from the 4.0 Cayman line.

Alternatively, perhaps the Cayman VW overflow line is drawing down.

Interesting data for sure…

Sorry for the "everyone already knows this" question, but are ONLY 4L 718's built in Zuff? So these numbers are only WRT GTS/GT4s/spyders/4rs?

zuffenhausen is the only build location for the 4.0L NA engine (9A2 evo). This engine is used exclusively in the Boxster/Cayman models GTS/GT4/GT4RS/Spyder/25th Anniversary.

Are the GT cars lumped in with your Cayman and Boxster numbers above?

I tend to agree with your historical vehicle build info. But, the data is the data…what is most important to me was stated in my first post, 3000 engines total for 22 and 23 and 0 in 24. That matches the vehicle EOP. That did not include the Cayman numbers that add another 1000 per year and in 24. I have seen cases where the engine build quantities are accurate, but allocations to vehicles change. I

I was simply pointing out that the GT4RS shares the same powerplant as the GT3 and not the “other” 718 4.0.

Nice! I feel like it should be either/or, not both. But then again, what do I know! I’ve found a dealer willing to do MSRP with a 12-18 month quoted timeframe, but said they want sales add ons instead of ADM. Crafty, lol.
