Doubt that folksy wisdom will be in play this winter for a Spyder. If you’re lucky to see a unicorn or two, no one will be giving them away…

Almost 200 US dealers and below is what’s available today.

I have two competing interests - one is to try and get delivery before my 30th birthday next December, and the second is to make sure I'm 100% happy with my current job, one year in, and receive the promotion I was essentially promised to receive in the Spring of '22 all before actually placing the order for the car.

So how long is it taking people getting in line to actually get their allocation? I would rathe wait to get the allocation in late April/May even if that means I don't get delivery until after my birthday.
In the past normal years I would have said make sure your finances and job are in line. In these non normal years you should probably plunk down a deposit to get on a waiting list now and hope that u would get the car a year from now. The deposits for wait lists should be refundable anyway and should u get an allocation and u are not ready u can always ask your dealer to pass on it and wait for the next allocation.

Allocations cometh according to my SA in Texas. Says he will be making calls at some point during the first week of November. I have an order demand for a BGTS and I’m at the top of the list (according to him). Details sketchy, but what I took from it is that there will be a few. He said they will have allocations for November and then no more until next April.

If I don’t get an allocation next month I’m just going to bite the bullet and buy a spyder off the pre owned market. Not for $176K for Gods sake, but something nonetheless.

Finder.porsche.com is kinda wonky, I just saw 10 Spyders for sale on there.

Either way, the point I'm making pertains to used cars. New cars have slowed to a trickle and I think dealers would probably rather try their luck with waiting until March than letting it go for MSRP now.

For used cars that are already on sale now, many of them have been on the market for months already. Letting those cars sit on the floor for another 5 or 6 months doesn't make as much sense. Doesn't seem like there are gonna be any more buyers willing to pay $20k over for a used Spyder or GT4 several months from now.

I don't think we'll get all the way back down to MSRP, but maybe closer to $5-10k over instead of the numbers we're seeing now.

My SA emailed me today to say he's hearing rumblings of allocations on 11/15. Wouldn't be the first time they expected something and ended up not hearing anything though.

^ That's likely accurate. Something is coming within next 2 weeks.

As you say, they can receive allocations but you may not get the call.

Porsche sends out allocations in bunches. So, on 11/15, they'll have, say, 50 (ha!) GT4 allocations that they'll distribute to dealers. Not sure anyone knows the exact formula, but exactly what dealers get one (or more) is based on the sales volume of the dealer, how long they've had demand orders, etc. So *some* should be coming. Will my dealer get one? Will yours? Who knows.

Step 1, officially announce GT4RS
Step 2, give out allocations for "regular" GT4

All for it if it means some people decide they'll hold out for a RS and free up another "regular" GT4 allocation for plebes like me!

Better hurry, GT4 allocations will cease once RS allocations hit the books.

Yeah, as much as I'd like them to stop production of GT4s to keep them more rare, I also have a couple of friends that I'd really like to see get into one.

I'd also love an RS, but like you, I'm just a plebe, lol..

I hope you are right. I've heard there are a whole bunch of factors that can earn allocations for a dealership. In addition to the obvious ones, there are things like buying press cars from the PCNA fleet and finding them a home, rennovating/expanding the sales facility, etc. I suspect there's some horse trading between dealers too after they compare their local demand to their allocations.

where is that rabbit's foot......

I doubt there is much horse trading between dealerships going on for allocations given that nothing is hard to sell right now.
