GT stalling followup
Just before Frenzy, my GT would stall when clutch in coming to a stop. I gave a couple "shots" of WD 49 and have driven it now three, four times and all seems good. Idle levels out nicely after warm up and settles nicely after revving. No hiccups when coming to stops. I'll be taking it up to Maine for the week and be putting about 300 miles on it, so we'll see if it has cured the problem or not. (I will be taking the WD40...just in case ) . Hope I dodged the bullet of having to pull the intake an r and r.

Where did you apply the WD40? I've noticed in this scenario my RPMs drop quite low and then bounce up....twice (only) it's actually stalled. I've developed a habit now of slightly goosing the gas when I do this, if I'm not standing on the brakes, but something is not right. Someone once suggested the ISV...is that where you put the WD40? I recall that was a "fix" for S4+ cars...

Jeff not sure where to inject the WD40 on an 86? Mine is a 91 and the vacuum tubes that go to the ISV are right next to the throttle linkage and under the air intake tubes.

Thanks...I was really just confirming that you were talking about the ISV....I don't think the WD40 trick applies to the S3...the ISV is a different animal from the S4 and up...

Picked it up from my mechanic, drove the snot out of it (damn it feels so good!), discovered that my drivers side fan is supposed to be on all the time and isn't - hence my overheat-under-load issues... and realized it's probably been like that the whole time I've owned it!
Then took it to dinner at the diner with my wife just for the hell of it...

I changed the brake fluid and watched the last of my super blue dot4 fluid go into the reclaim drum. End of an era.

I've currently got Super Blue in each of my cars. I have the Super Amber(?) for the first swap. And then I have just enough Super Blue for one complete brake fluid swap. That will be a sad day.

Put it in time out and used it as a staging are to work on my motorcycle.

hashtag: lost that loving feeling.
No, not a real hashtag, I don't play that.
Jeff- nice context/observation.
I was just reading one of your posts where you comment on your level of electrical prowess-- I think it was 2006? May have the date confused with another thread though. Tough air when one goes back that deep in the archives!
BTW, Redline does a brake fluid now, that and some of the Motul offerings, worth checking out. Mind the compatibility warnings and service intervals though.

Just drove my grandson to school...
Daughter had a doctor appointment out of town, so my wife was asked to watch the grand kids. I decided to take a vacation day and tag along, since three grand kids against one grand parent weren't the best of odds. Granted, even at two against three...I'm still not sure we won the day...but we held our own.
Anyhow, was able to drive the oldest to and from school. He liked that, especially when I let him ride up front. Funny though, as we walked up to the car to leave school...he strolled up to the drivers door. I was like...hey, I'll let you drive the zero turn at seven...but not the car...lol.
On the way home, there was almost a sadness that surrounded the car. Leaves are disappearing from the canopy overhead, leaving only a sinister skeleton, and where now a bitter gray fills there once blue backdrop...looks like "old blacky's" days are numbered.
Brian.

Hi Gents: I am a recently new owner of an 87 S4 auto, and am attempting a timing belt and waterpump change, and would like to know if this looks good? I am enclosing a photo. Everything was going well, until I put the crank shaft pulley back on.The 45 deg. marks were all lined up, but the keyway was in a hard spot to see, and I put it back on, but the crank shaft mark does not line up. The cams are good, the piston no.1 is at TDC, but the crank does not line up. I have rotated twice by hand and everything feels good.Any other suggestions, or any other place to check.

Start a new thread with your picture and question so folks will be able to respond to it.
In the meanwhile, your original goal was to have the crankshaft at 45º before TDC on the #1 cylinder, as indicated by the pointer on the water pump and again by the pointer on the cover once that cover is installed. Order of procedure would be crank to that -45º position (45 mark on balancer rim, --crankshaft is locked in that position for the full duration of the procedure including balancer removal, removal of belt and replacement of all the pieces, and through installation of the belt and the initial timing of the cams at their 45º marks that are three cam gear teeth before the TDC notches on the cam gears.
If your crank is still locked at the -45º position, all is well. It's possible that you have installed the balancer facing the wrong way, so the crank marks no longer line up. When installed, the numbers on the balancer are pacing front, so that standing at the front of the engine and looking down, you can read the numbers right-side-up. Start off by verifying the orientation of the balancer, reverse if needed. Lock the crank position where it is now so that there's no chance of [further] damage to valves.
We can get into a recovery process/procedure when we find out where the crankshaft is actually sitting in it's rotation.
Mods, could you move the previous post and this one to a separate thread please, with appropriate title? Thanks!
