Alan,
I have some top questions. You said it's a hassle to erect. Is this because you're still new at putting the top up and down or is it really a PITA to do on a daily basis? One year from now could top issues be a deal killer and it would make a person get rid of the car? With the top up how bad is the noise at speeds between 55-75? Is the noise a constant pleasant flap of canvas or is it batten down the hatches I'm in a hurricane? Last question. With the top down do you still think the cabin would be comfortable and draft free at 100+ mph? Thanks.

I do agree this will hold value way better than a standard Boxster or Cayman.
Ask a guy who owns a 2008 RS60 the same question. I dont think its going to be "much" better

Is that a serious question?

Absolutely a serious question. My other top down cars are comfortable, draft free, and able to carry on a conversation at 140+ mph. This Spyder has no value to me if I can't drive over 100+ and be comfortable. If this car is horrible to drive at freeway speeds 55-75 with the top up and no fun with the top down it's a deal breaker for me.

I think you are judging me too quickly. I'm coming from the Ferrari side. I think you might be surprised how comfortable and quiet cars are today. My present car is a 430 Scuderia. My other Ferraris have been spiders. I'm used to speed. My brother owned a CGT. Triple digit speeds and carrying on a conversion is normal especially on a track. All I asked is if the Spyder would be comfortable at 100+ mph.

Maybe I jumped to conclusions? I saw your tag line below BLACK SHEEP RACING "Never argue with idiots - first they drag you down to their level, then they beat you with experience." I thought the "idiot" part was directed at me or my post? I'm mistaken?

I would say you are mistaken as that appears to be part of his signature line

Agree, mistaken.

Here are my initial driving impressions (have logged only about 25 miles so far):

1. Clutch is light (much lighter than on my 997.1 GT3RS), and the short-shift is awesome. Steering feel is good (but not as good as with the RS).

2. The car is incredibly neutral and balanced, and the suspension set up is perfect (dare I say better than with the GT3RS) -- no PASM, but I wouldn't change a thing -- firm, but not in a bad way.

3. I haven't been above 5k revs, but power seems quite good.

4. Stereo is actually pretty decent (better than I expected, and much, much better than in the RS), and Bluetooth works just fine.

5. I am somewhat surprised how loud it is in the car (you can hear quite a bit of outside noise/traffic with the top up, given that the roof is not insulated).

6. Sport buckets are terrific -- not as tight as the Euro CF fixed (cloth) buckets in my RS, but quite supportive and comfortable. I like 'em.

7. Fun factor is quite high -- this car is a blast to drive -- hit a few back-country roads last night, and I was smiling.

Proper shake-down to happen this weekend, but initial impressions are quite favorable!

No public roads unless they were closed for a special event. Most of the time on a track. Although I have to admit I hit a 100 on the Jersey Turnpike when I got stuck in the fast lane and couldn't get out. I used to live in Moorestown.

I wouldn't be messing with the top on a daily basis, but I am an inherently lazy person and don't require open top motoring on a daily basis.

I've only put the top up once, and haven't taken it down yet (it was delivered open), so I'm sure a process/routine will come naturally soon enough. What I expect will be most tedious with the procedure is protecting it all; taking care not to let flaps and snaps brush against the paint, keeping the plastic window scratch-free, etc. Will it make a person get rid of the car? Depends...if you are concerned with security/bird droppings/etc. while you run into the store for a carton of milk, then yes.

The radio is good enough to drown out the freeway noise, so it isn't like a hurricane. As zellamsee mentioned, it is not only the wind noise and canvas vibrations, but tire noise, surrounding traffic, etc. It probably isn't any worse than with the top down, but the point is that the top is for protection from the elements, with no pretentions of transforming into coupe-like serenity. I noticed 90ish briefly on the speedo, and it will mess up your hair, but I found it to be pleasant.

Hope that helps...
