Pulled the engine over the Christmas weekend for a full reseal and rod bearing change. Also will change the TT with one I rebuilt, replace the worn steering rack, replace the lower ball joints and hopefully pull the A/C lines to have them updated with barrier hose.

Installed a new head unit. Wanted something that respected the early interior while still being useful, and this is what I found:

This one is very basic, but exactly what I want for this car...aux. input, Bluetooth, and hands free calling.

I have a wiring diagram if anyone is interested, it pertains to practically all aftermarket radios. I also have my old Blaupunkt Florida RD 168 listed in my "free/cheap parts" thread for free.

Was awesome driving her home though. I had a grin from ear to ear for 5 hours straight.

Ashman. Where did you pick that up? I've been doing what I thought was a tremendous amount of searching for my 924s replacement.

Installed a mad battery hot terminal. Before, the terminal was cluttered with eyelets connecting to it - the headlights are on their own standalone relay system (seen on the right side of battery tray in pic) so there are a quite a few hot wires needed. Then I added the DIY relay/fuse panel for the MS ECU system which required 2 hot wires as well. It looked terrible but worked great.

Then the other night I was going for a drive and the starter clicked, then nothing happened. Sure enough, the terminal had failed. The lead "C" that clamps around the post had actually split and it was barely able to squeeze the post. Got this new one at AZ for $10 and no more eyelets....the bare wires are held into the body with set screws.

Swapped the driver and passenger seats and rail assemblies so I can have a non-beat-to-hell driver's seat until I get around to the re-cover project! Early sport seats are *fantastic*, but the non-reversible recline adjust and the single fold forward levers are a bit rough when swapping left and right. Will do it all right once I pick up a set of covers, but mechanicals still take priority, and I need a clutch kit pretty badly, plus a set of exterior door handles...

When you're shopping for new seat covers, I definitely recommend taking a look at the covers that only944.com sells. I used them for my early sport seat recover project and they are great quality for the price. I was even able to request some custom touches, which was nice. The kit was easy enough to install for an upholstery newbie, too. They are vinyl, which is no problem to me, but it's worth noting since I know some greatly prefer leather.

They're not quite as nice as, say, having the seats redone in leather by Classic 9, of course, but that's a whole different order of magnitude in terms of budget.

Started on my RS-style door cards today. Removed the power window regulator and motor (5lb 8oz) and stock door cards (5lb 13oz), will cut off the bottom similarly to the DWA 944 and make a flat panel with RS-style door pulls and a strap to raise/lower the window, plus lightweight manual mirrors. I should be able to trim 10-12 pounds from each door. I'm planning on making a how-to as I progress.
