Please, let me explain it to you in German: Glaub es mir, Du Volltrottel, sie reden von Allradantrieb. Dies, wörtlich ins englische übersetzt ist "All Wheel Drive". Im deutschen hat dies aber die GLEICHE BEDEUTUNG wie Vierradantrieb.

OK?

And maybe the absolute truth is even somewhere in the middle as niether you nor I were at the marketing meetings prior to the 996 Allradantriebsversion's introduction. And the world is not black and white but shades of gray.

But, you will come back and explain that you, and only you are right...
Thanks for helping my wife brush up on her German, she sent me this:

Translation- Believe me, you "idiot" (can also mean ********, ****, jerk, etc), they're speaking of all wheel drive. This word (allradantrieb), is directly translated word for word in English as "all wheel drive". But in German, this word (allradantrieb) has the SAME MEANING as four wheel drive (vierradantrieb).

Hope that helps you, whatever automotive message board context you're pulling it from!

Your GT2rs is the best looking version of our cars in my book!

I vote for pragmatism too. On the other hand, maybe we can keep this silly discussion going for a few more pages.

From my direct and personal experience with Porsche of San Antonio, they are confused by everything.

^^ Amen!

You think the 4x4 vs. AWD starts a heated debate, try starting the debate over how to correctly pronounce the word "Porsche"

It's been done. In fact, it's been overdone.

Why would anyone call it PorschA? It's Porsche and nothing else! Germans pronounce it as they should.

Amen brother. Why the **** should 'e' become 'ah'. I cringe every time I hear porschah. Incorrect for incorrect, I'll take porsh over porshah any time.

But it's properly pronounced with two syllables.

We have to remember that Porsche is not only a company name but also a family name. And how would the Porsche family prefer you pronounce their name? Before you say it doesn't matter, think about this...

If your name was Giorgio Armani, would you want it pronounced "Gee-orgy-o Arm-ani" or as the family prefers... That is, "Jor-ji-o Ar-ma-nee"?? The Porsche family name is pronounced "PORSCH-UH".

As long as the second syllable is "eh" instead of "ah", then yes. Otherwise itsucks, number of syllables notwithstanding.

I agree, although I think it's sometimes hard to differentiate between the two when non-German speakers pronounce the name.

But the name is certainly not "Porsh".
