Default Porsch, Porsha, or Pors-sha

The other day, I overheard a older woman with a German accent talking. Being half-German and also have been stationed in the FRG for a few years, I struck up a conversation with her.

The woman was originally from Munich and married a GI who was stationed there in the 1960s (Hawk Missile repairman). When I mentioned my background and that I owned a Porsche, she said her husband owned a 356C when they lived there.

I didn't catch it right away, but eventually I heard her unusual pronunciation of the name. From a recent issue of either Panorama or Excellence, one of the Porsche family was interviewed and explained the three pronunciations:

Porsch (American)
Porscha (German)
Pors-sha (Austrian)

The woman, even though she was from Germany, pronounced Porsche like the third example. Interesting.

Hey Kevin, I see you're a NORPCA member. Did we meet at the new member party?

Interesting info on the pronunciation of Porsche - I've never heard the third before but having listened to native Austrians speak it makes sense.

Wasn't Ferry quoted as "I dont' care how people pronounce my family name as long as they buy my cars!"

Al Zim got sued for naming his repair shop Por-Sha

So yes, it is a two syllable word.

She also told me that in Germany it had been customary to flash headlights when two Porsches met. Se found it interesting when I told her that we had kind of gotten away from that and now waved.

Probably not. I was only at last year's a short while due to the little woman being sick, and we did not go at all this year.

We are going to the Mooreland Mansion tour next month; how about you?
