HP wins races and HP sells cars. :)

Guys.......................in all seriousness.....ANY street car against ANY 200+ hp "race" car is not a fair race.....excellent street cars like the ZR1 are severely compromised on a road course...the reason SO many manufacturers use the ring is IT FAVORS POWER by a huge margin....you can suck almost the whole course and make it all up on the long straight...this is why the Veyron runs a 7:40.....
Thunderhill is about 1/2 power and 1/2 handling....which is why spec miati do quite well there.....I'm running 2:02's....a decent time.....it would take a serious driver to beat me in a ZR1.....since I think a well driven bone stock ZR1 is around a 2:00 car.... A friend who is a GOOD driver turned a 2:08.5 in his 2009 ZR1.....bone stock....then came in and said it was "scary".....
while I am a decent driver, there is "more" in the car...... I welcome ANY bone stock ZR1 that thinks it can beat me

A couple of years ago, they finally saw the "light" and made engines that had more torque and less top end horsepower (which is a really, really great story, BTW) and made their race cars much, much faster.
Only took them 20 years. You might get it sooner!

You either aren't giving your driving skills their due, or everyone that owns a ZR1 and takes it to that track is a HORRIBLE driver.
I think we should be talking driver skill over your car being better around ANY race track than a car like the ZR1. That's just absurd. I get the bone stock thing, but you've already spotted the car two seconds.

The guys driving the ZR1s have far, far more at risk than an old 928 "racecar"and often their objective for the day is have fun and drive home. We see it all the time at POC HPD events fast expensive cars doing "parade laps" but if they are having fun it does not matter. Last event one fellow who blew by on the straight and then parked it in a corner came by to apoligize for braking so hard in front of me...I guess the sound of the left front locking up right behind him was a clue I was close he had already turned in and the screaching tire was only about ten feet from his window.

Well guys, low weight wins races. The Corvette ZR1 might be fast with 7.26 but this guy made the Ring in 6.48. Here is no low end torque, just horsepower and 10.000 rpm. Mark Kibort can never beat this guy in spite of how much torque he has. Note that the Radical SR8LM is only doing 165 mph on the long straight. Some cars are getting close to 200 mph. Low weight and being able to go through curves at high speed is the key to success.

Bah, about the same as Derek Bell with a "heavy" camera in the car, full commentary and even some sightseeing
The 956 has a pretty respectable torque number too, but an engine only half the size of a GTS Can't argue about the low weight and the downforce/ground effect features...

Why do F1 cars (aka the best road cars in the world) use this formula? Top fuel cars use the "high torque" model. I see our 928s more akin to the former.

F1 cars are built to a very strict set of rules otherwise they would be even lighter and far more powerful. And any comparison to a 928 is quite a stretch considering that any extended use of a stock 928 engine above 6,000 RPM means #2,#6 rod bearing failure.....
