Just ran a Hosted Daytona race, started 13th, got as high as 5th when I got the *** of the car in front of me light and MAN it was a wild ride after that! I put the video file up on MediaFire for dwonload, you have to watch it in the "Replay" app in iRacing. Just put it in "Yourusername\Documents\iRacing\Replays folder.

This up on the iRacing Home page, thought it was pretty cool -

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. won the inaugural NASCAR iRacing World Championship race at Daytona International Speedway on Tuesday, coming home ahead of Thomas Hazard and Martin Thiemt in a race that ended under caution. It was the first and only caution of the race and it couldn’t have come at a better time for the winner, who was poised to make a pit stop when the yellow flags waved.

“Com(ing) through turns 3-4 with two laps left I had to prepare for a pit stop for a little gas,” Earnhardt said. “I looked in the mirror and saw an accident and the yellow came out. At this point I had exactly .3 gallons left and sputtered across the line to take the yellow. After 2 more laps of sputtering I took the checkered and that was that. You can’t get any more luckier than that.”
Will we have to do a pit in your race Kevin? Used to do it in NASCAR 2003 but not sure tire wear is modeled in this yet?

Tire wear is modeled but in my experience during the races I've run on the big ovals the fuel issue is the big thing. That will depend on the length of the race obviously.

Joe - missed a good race Monday, if you, Ed, and Glen stayed we would have had ten guys to wreck in there! Still have no idea who Ray Rivard is, maybe someone's kid from here?? Sounded like Paolo on Helium..

Tires do wear and fuel burns off. I was thinking of running a 30 lap race which should eliminate both issues and NOT require pitting. I figured for the first oval race let's keep it simple. I need to run a test to make sure the car will hold 30 laps of fuel to be sure though. I am also planning on turning on full course cautions. Without cautions the field will get too spread out and people who lose the draft avoiding an accident will never catch back up. Cautions work like this:

Caution flag comes out
Field is frozen
once the field is bunched up the next time by pit-in cars on the lead lap can pit
next time by cars a lap down or more can pit
next time by green flag is thrown

Race control will give each driver individual instructions (shown on screen) as to where to line up. You may be instructed to let someone by, or to go around someone. Just follow what race control says to do. If you are not sure what to do just key your mic and let us know what is going on and I can try to help.

You could always set an initial fuel amount (you can change it, yes?) to start with to make a pit stop required, then each person has to decide on getting 0, 2,or 4 tires or having a chassis setup change (can be done like N2003?) during the stop. Adds a lot to a race. Maybe too advanced for some (including me!)..

The only thing I don't like about pitstops is that it also spreads teh field out. At lest in the few races I've run.

Just did a five lap run and the 18 gallons should get about 32-33 laps running solo and a bit better running in a pack.

I suppose if we only get 10-15 guys that will be an issue... 43 cars, just adds to the realism!

I'm going to try and hop into a Hosted race this afternoon, been a lot of open Daytona races up of late.. gotta practice not bumping the guy in front of me when the draft yanks me in..

No need for hosted races if you just want practice. The Daytona 500 special which is under the rookie category has very full practice sessions.
