That was a really fun race last week. I can't believe I even finished after putting the car on it's lid. That MX5 is a tank!

I'm looking forward to next weeks race.... I heard a rumor it might be Homestead with the DP's or Mustang

I am very interested in doing this now. I just recently caught the indoor karting bug and I just have to get some kind of seat time any kind of seat time.

I need to get a nice setup, particularly one that will offer the highest frame rate etc... This is what I have put together based on CXC's recommendations in OT:

1) Logitech G27 wheel and pedal set up $299
2) PTR Pedal Modification for the G27 $150
3) Obutto Gaming Frame $479 (shipped) (this is back ordered which really SUCKS!)
4) A decent gaming PC (est. $1000)

For the PC I was thinking something like a cheap ASUS from Best Buy like this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+E...&skuId=1700116. Do I need to change out the video card or add another one for dual GPUs? Would I be better off building something myself (with the understanding that I know how to do that?)

I just want to make sure the PC is good enough if I am going to spend $1000 for the other stuff.

The Best Buy link didn't work for me. Intel i5 or i7, 4GB min memory, any HD and DVD, and a good 1GB video card (either GeForce or ATI, though I prefer ATI). If you want to build it yourself I just built one and would be happy to share my specs, I use NewEgg. I would plan on +/- $1500 for a stout system with a 24" flatscreen.. and up from there it goes. Of course you can spend less but if you are spending $1000 for the peripherals (The Obutto frame looks pretty spindly to me) I would think you would want something good.

Can you PM me what you built? I was planning on setting it up in front of my samsung LED/LCD tv, bad idea? I guess there is no real benefit having multiple GPUs for these racing games, right?

Meaning, I will move this get up into place to play in front of my TV, and move it back to the living room corner when not. Girlfriend is not that happy about that arrangement, but I generate the revenue so....

Yeah, that will work great

As for PC; I'd recommend any Core i7, 4GB RAM, and an ATI 6870 graphics card.

Ok, got it. So maybe just spec something out myself with a core i7 and the above. If the dual GPU issue is something to worry about, I can always add another card since the computer has PCI express (sadly, I only know most of this graphics stuff because of one of my patent infringement cases, lame, I know).

When the girlfriend gets tired of me moving my get up, I will get three screens and put it in the corner of the living room.

BTW, I have a client that is in So Cal. and I am thinking I have a deposition to prep and defend there soon. Even though your sims are WAY out of my price range, would it be cool for me to stop by if I can? I am an attorney, but I have a EE/CE background (grad and undergrad in computer).

I'd love to give you the grand tour! Come visit us anytime. If you come on a Wednesday, you could even run the Rennlist League race in the big simulators with us

Well, I went to Microcenter in Fairfax today and with some help left with everything I needed to build my machine. There was a nice young kid there that helped me pick everything out since I haven't done this in like 15 years (during undergrad) (made sure he got his sticker on everything, so it helps him too). Here are my specs:

Radeon 6870
Gigabyte udr3 motherboard
Intel i7 3.06gz processor
6 gigs of ram
t terabyte hard drive
windows home premium
dvd drive
cheap case

Currently finishing installing windows. Total was 1173 minus 70 in rebates is 1103. Not bad.

That's a great deal. You will be very happy with that machine. As is, it will scale to a triple screen system as well.
