Thats kind of what i suspected and respect your experience there.

however, ill probably never run slicks on my car, unless the entire suspension is redone. . fortunately, all we run out here is the DOT class races.

I will qualify this by asking what your point is? If it is for racing, then the above is usually true. If it is for time-trialing, then it is absolutely true because you should start your pressures a little higher as they will not build as much in 3 laps, so the slick is up to pressure even quicker than in a racing situation.

Hmm...I believe the last time I suggested that was in February 2007, well over 2 years ago. I stopped saying it after actually timing some laps, and realizing they were consistely as fast, but not faster.

But thanks for paying attention to what I posted over 2 years ago!

You mean March 2008. When was the last time you ran RA1's anyways?

What did I post in March 2008, Greg? Not that it matters.

I last ran them in very late 2008, when I finally used my last scrubs up.

And you took the time to do so.

Because what I said a year ago matters SO much, right?

Has anyone had experience with the Kumho Ecsta S700 racing slicks? Can you give your thoughts about performance relative to other other racing slicks. Tnx.

Not at all. Just working on a deal for some Kumhos, that's all. Trying to find someone with comparative experience. They were only mentioned once on this thread but I don't think the refrence was to the raciing slicks.

Just an on going set of data points regarding the comparisons we have been discussing.

We finally have a car that is driven by a good, consistant driver and running both slicks and hoosiers R6s, new sets on a consistant race to race basis. He is running in the SP SCCA group and the DOT clad ITE group.

This weekend, he was consistantly 1-2 seconds faster on the slicks, all other things being equal. (for the most part) 1:30.1 for the SP race, 1:32.9 for the ITE race. 1:31.1 for qual SP, 1:32.1 for ITE on DOTs. This is on a 600hp NSX turbo. Same days for both qual and the races in each of the two run groups.

Now getting back to the Toyos vs Hoosiers, I certainly wouldnt bet any money that he couldnt run within 1 second of the DOT race time of 1:32.9 (i.e. 1:33.9) on a toyo RA1 or R888. 275rears with 225 fronts.

The Hoosiers were R6s and the slicks were, I think, Pirellis. Some nice sticky standard fast slick compound. I dont have the details on them, but Ill find out.

The R6's vs slicks makes sense as many of the SCCA guys run A6's at nationals and say they are 1-2 seconds faster than the R6's and that many full slicks are hardly faster than the A6's at all.
