View Poll Results: Who won the debate: MK (HP) or VR (Torque)
Mk won with a simple to understand concept that HP determines torque at the wheels at any speed.

Poll: Who won the HP vs Torque debate?
#211
Hey, VR, remember John Prall. what do you think his, Brandons, Nicks, excuse for ending up behind me at races at laguna was?
Recognize any other names here?
A lot of these guys have made my highlight clips! My favorite was Prall and his turn 11 smashing, corkscrew jumping, screaming Bmmer, or Aweida in his first drive with the x-pobst WC Cup car.
Hey, remember, I was driving with the same hp to weight as all of these guys and a HECK of a lot less car!

It's amazing someone hasn't signed you to drive their car...you obviously have so much talent to drive your 200 hp, 20 year old rubber bushing, 75 heat cycle Toyo shod Porsche at such blazingly fast speeds. From what I hear from a friend of a friend, Randy Pobst often has trouble sleeping due to worrying that the word is going to get out about you and he's going to lose his seat.

I dont get too excited. As a close "pro" friend once said, there really is no lack of tallent out there. Lots of drivers can spin off some good times. Many are good at the race craft, but the difference is what they do with it and to a certain extent, the breaks they get. I have no illusions that anyone is looking for a non-youngster that can spin a pretty decent time with a pile of DS on wheels, BUT, If/when I get the cash, Ill certainly toss my hat in the ring.

Here is how I see the score.
27 understand
36 are contrarians or just dont understand.
Nothing more, nothing less.
The Poll question was simple and there is only one answer. well, 2, with a good "depends" story. So far, no one has offered up one worth noting.

You must not be paying attention. To see what the masses believed and thought. most were predicted. It was obvious that some didnt get it, but were not bold enough to chime in. An anomous vote got many more to survey.
results were in the percentages I expected. You have to realize, ive had this discussion, both professionaly or in ths sport arena for over 20 years now. Its amazing how many dont get it at first, and take a while to finally get on board. I remember there was an engineer at a race track, almost tossing a tantrum with getting caught up in the torque hype. He sent me the nicest email a week later after he had time to really think about it. Go look in your physics books, its never really spelled out anywhere, except the overall concept being based on a=F/m. Differentiating the torque at the engine vs the torque at the rear wheels is the hard part for some.
If I was really going to analyse the poll, I would say, 25% agree and understand, 25% dont understand, 10% just like a fight or are contrarians, and 40% could care less. . simular to what you would find in any highschool science classroom.
Now, VR is a little flippant, due to his experiences, as well as most of ours with lower torque engines, even with near the same HP. As I have said, many times, the case is usually stronger at first glance with a higher torque engine of near the same HP. BUT, there are cases where this is not true. The arguement should have been clarified. "Is it the rule, or are there exceptions?" that might have gone over better. Then, we could focus on the types of engines that would be the exceptions. This is then a great segway into the gearing discussion, where you get as much polarization and misunderstanding there as well.
Hey, why do you think your BMW does so well? Its not a torquey monster. Its good balance of weight, power, and handling. But, make no mistake, you can out accel in any area, many of the 5.0 mustang V8s in a straight line that have a HP cuve that is shapped like the one I posted, yet with less "engine torque".
All for now

I have no idea what those guys may have been driving at Laguna, Mark, so your self-aggrandizing question is just that (and irrelevant).
