Mark, while I really enjoy this sort of bantering, after a while it gets a bit much. Dez' original query which started this whole thing was an excellent question.

The fact that, over the intervening MONTHS since Dez' query, you have started at least 3 additional threads that in one way or other seek to "prove" that you were "right" months ago and I was "wrong", even though I was the only one of the two of us to actually answer Dez' specific question, speaks to just how much I have gotten under your skin. It also speaks to several other things about you which would serve me no purpose to point out, but which nearly everyone here can plainly see.

FYI, Mark, I have no "followers", but your choice of that term is also quite telling.

It is not "surious" at best. It is a dependent factor.

It means that engine torque alone does not make a faster car, anywhere, at any speed, on the race track, guranteed. That is the entire point. You said that the higher torque engine is better coming off turns than a lower torque engine and that is not true at all. there are cases where lower torque engines can produce more REAR WHEEL TORQUE, and accelerative forces that trump a higher torque engine of the same HP. Just because they are not as common, doesnt make your statement right.

Im not losing the poll, even if more tend to your side. The point there would be more work needs to be done!

It was an excellent question. Its similar to ones Ive answered for years in this sport and professionally. I do enjoy this kind of bantering as well. But, you didnt answer Dez's question CORRECTLY, as it was clear to see. I actually did, with the same type of answer that is provided to me on questions I have for the list. somethings DO depend on factors. To say that a big torque engine of equal hp is better than a low torque engine, is doing a diservice to Dez and the entire racing community. Power is paramount! its what moves the car. If you can find an engine in two cars, one with a flatter hp curve, regardless of engine torque, use it. use the car with it. All that you can learn from these threads points too the REAL answer here. maximize HP you go faster. select an engine that gives more HP over any speed range, and you will be faster than someone that has selected one with only a high torque value.

The answer to Dez is still, "It depends". It depends on the shape of the HP curve and nothing more. Although torque values for the same engine can be useful, we were talking about different engines and they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Please tell the 200ft-lb , 10,000rpm rotory RX8 Rolex GT car that he cant win races vs the vets and porsches. Forget about car design, just look at power to weight in a straight line. And of couse, dont forget the GT3 WCGT porsches, with 250lbs rewards weight (near same car weight) hanging with vipers and vets on any turn on any straight with half the "engine" torque.

Its power baby! remember, power is the rate of doing work! It tells you the acceleration potential of any mass at and over, any speed anywhere on the track or otherwise. Engine torque is just a number with no meaning unless engine speed is known. Then and only then can we determine acceleration forces at the rear tires! With power, the entire story is already there.

Dez, pick an engine that has a broader HP curve if you are choosing between an engine with more torque vs another.

For VR--- I'm a big fan of torque actually. REAR WHEEL TORQUE, after the gear reductions, AND that is determined by engine HP at any vehicle speed. after all a=F/m! But at the rear tires!

The Roman Catholic Church, as an organization, believes a LOT of things that the Bible doesn't say.
