Dan and Gary make sure you have a very thick neck protector. Fred likes to bump draft (bump draft you right into a wall).

Simple....they wouldn't waste their money on sticker slicks for "just" a Club Race! Probably running used Sears All Season tires because "it doesn't matter".

Pro Racer. Lets see, can someone tell me what the definition is and what the qualification to be one is? VR have you made a political stance with your new avatar?

By definition, a pro is someone who is faster than Colin.

"Pro racer" = someone able to "fog a mirror" and "write non-rubber check to Pro race series".

Run whatever you want to and tell them to kiss your ****... I just ignore "those" guys until I see them at the track. Generally it's the text, the beer in their hand, or the comfort of someone's home that makes them feel the need to dictate their views to the rest of us. Live your life and be happy!

Tell your wife I said hi and I still have my "spiffy fedora", as she put it last year at VIR! I hope to see you guys again at the track soon!

Mike,

Margo sends her best and says to keep wearing that hat, in spite of what your wife thinks.

Yes, I do know the answer to the original question, but I got tired of some of the racers' responses to questions on tires and other items that instead of being helpful, are belittling of a person in DE who is asking a legitimate question. After all, we all started somewhere, and one of the wonderful things about track is that there are always more experienced drivers who are happy to mentor the newer ones.

As I said, I have done both, and both are a blast. Yes, they are different, but they are both a lot of fun.

With that, I'll post a tongue-in-cheek question to some of the racers:

If you're not on the podium all the time at each race, why do you bother investing in new tires, new brakes, etc.? If you can't be on the podium, why race?

I repeat, this is a tongue-in-cheek question to put things in perspective.

Pro baseball= gets paid to play
Pro golfer= gets paid to play
Pro football= gets paid to play
Pro basket ball= gets paid to play
Pro racer= write big checks to play
I guess my point is that racing does not always mean that you excell in, just that you can pony up alot of money with "0" skill.

It may be tongue-in-cheek, but for me... If I didn't think I had a decent chance of a podium, or depending on groupings, an overall group podium I wouldn't go crazy with tires, either. Case in point: Road America this past year. My competition was less, so I went with the used tires I had.

Although come to think of it there is one criteria above podium: beating Colin. So, yes, I'd still go with fresh tires if Colin was.

(Mike, since you've defined me as pro, when can I expect some of those appearance fees like you get? )
