I listened to a high-performance podcast with Alex Albon that was also very interesting and good. I’m watching the truck practice at COTA and laughing because if they had the F1 stewards there they would be having a stroke trying to penalize track limits :-)

Tight qualifying session.
Sainz clearly telling Ferrari that they might have made a mistake letting him go.

This past week, Briatore and Ralf Schumacher said that Lewis would not match Leclerc next year and HAM has a history of not trying when he doesn't have the absolute best car on the grid. Those words could not be more true as we've seen so far in 2024. Even his words today are of a defeatist. Ham and Ferrari will make a lot of money next year and attention will be cast on them, but it won't be for being on the top step.

Last thing Checo needed was a 3-place grid penalty....

RedBull and Max have been racing under a lucky star for a long time now but as we discussed pre-season with F1 that never lasts forever.
Ferrari must be second guessing themselves. Sainz will have a seat somewhere else soon if he doesn't already.
Mercedes must be collectively depressed. They are slower than their customer team McLaren and racing their other customer Aston head to head.

In other news..... we're about to get it on down under. Home race for RIC and PIA and the third of the year. So far, RIC has not gotten the better of Yuki... don't know what his future will be without consistently beating him. On the other hand, Checo isn't the best qualifier, but if he can again finish 2nd without any drama for a third consecutive race, he has to be the odds on favorite to keep his seat for next year. Yes, a little early, but perhaps Perez is concentrating on being consistent and finishing 2nd rather than thinking he could actually beat Max.
Sainz is expected to have a go, but doctor's have been looking at him closely. Given he had organ surgery less than 2 weeks ago coupled with the high G demands on the body, I don't know if it's wise and perhaps Bearman should have another shot with a full weekend under his belt to see if he can duplicate what he did in SA.

Alonso handed 20 second penalty for erratic driving... Leading to Russell's crash.
I thought the coverage of that incident was lacking. Never did see what led up to it, but the aftermath looked much worse than the crash itself.
Yuki up to 7th after Alonso's penalty. Ricci 12th. Not the way to advance your career, or even keep your job.
Christian Horny explained away Perez' finishing position as 'floor damage'. Both MB guys were impressed by his speed, anyway...
Sainz totally deserved the win.

I was wondering when Brundle mentioned that Alonso was much slower in that section than the norm, and whether that caught Russell out; in other words was it a ‘brake check’ type situation. If so, Alonso should be ashamed of himself; he knows better than that GD it!

Best race of the season, and maybe most of last season, the reason of course being that Max wasn’t enjoying a Sunday drive. A shame it takes a DNF to make a race far more enjoyable.
Many congrats to Carlos; Ferrari really may be having second thoughts about letting him go. Sainz to RB in ‘25? Perez didn’t do his future prospects much good this weekend.
If the McLarens just had a bit more top end speed, they’d be a force!

Great race, great result. It was mentioned before the season began that the probability of Max not having a mechanical DNF were short, still, the Ferrari's were quick this weekend as were the Macs. A lot transpired during the race which made it all the better, but it's pretty clear that the Red Bull is only good in Max's hands. Perez was over 30s off the leader before Russell's crash.
Just to reemphasis, Sainz is the only other driver to beat both Red Bull's over a two year period. Ferrari's decision to not retain him has to be weighing heavily on them right now. As a result, Carlos has to be a candidate for that 2nd seat at RBR if it isn't Yuki. Yuki's on a mission as he was quoted as saying this week that if he's not in the running for the Red Bull seat, then this year is an open audition for other teams. I can see Sainz at either RBR or Mercedes.
I know some will disagree, but Alonso's penalty seems quite harsh. The ruling said that he broke early, then accelerated and then broke again. Sorry, that to me is old school defending to slow the trailing car and have them slower on the gas out of the corner. The moment I saw George closing in on Fernando, I said to myself that Alonso was going to throw everything at him to defense so be prepared for a fight. George is no where close to Alonso's level of cunningness and was just out driven by a master despite having the faster car and fresher tires. This is Georges 2nd time in less than a year he's crashed on the final lap of a race.
Anyway, Forza Ferrari!! As Steve Machette used to love saying, "The church bells will ring today in Marnello."
