Quite a few years ago F1 thought seriously about leaving the FIA and setting up a completely separate racing series more in-tune with their wants/needs.

With the new ownership; massive increase in viewership and hence money, combined with an incompetent and poorly lead FIA, one wonders whether might be an option in the future?

Ive argued for years that I simply don’t see the value the FIA brings to F1 today. Conversely, The FIA has been able to benefit from a fractured F1 as it relates to particular teams. Could F1 duplicate what the FIA does? Absolutely.

F1 and FIA are like a dysfunctional married couple who are staying together for the kids.

Liberty Media and teams could leave and form a new series but it can not be call Formula 1. That is the problem.

Well aware of that, and not insurmountable. Hell, they used to be the only circuit racing that used ‘Gran Prix’, but now there’s a bloody Grand Prix of everything!

The trademark "Formula 1" is completely insurmountable. The FIA owns it, it is internationally recognized, and they are not selling it. If Bernie and Max Mosley couldn't steal it away nobody can.

You would have better luck trying to buy the "Coca-Cola" trademark.

"Gran Prix" was never trademarked because it can not be trademarked. It would be like trying to trademark "Grand Prize".

There is no doubt that the moniker ‘Formula 1’ could not be used, but F1 is the FIA’s cash cow and with the threat of the premier racing series leaving the FIA umbrella FIA might well be forced into an accommodation. There are no doubt some very bright people at Liberty Media that could negotiate with the clowns at the FIA.

Chance of FOCA along with Liberty making a move is low, but money talks and if FIA is seen as impeding interest and success of the series, one never knows.

True.

I think when Ben Sulayem is replaced via not being reelected a lot of the disfunction at the FIA disappears.

I really hope you’re right, but iirc he was elected thanks to a majority of votes from countries that don’t even have race tracks, whilst his opponent was incredibly well regarded and qualified to actually run the FIA.

As they say in car sales: ‘Money talks’!

Default WHY?

Just why?

🚨BREAKING: The contract to host Formula One in Chicago has been signed! Circuit planning is underway, with the inaugural race confirmed for 2026 and beyond.

The event will be a night race, scheduled just before the Canadian Grand Prix. With Chicago investing in a new $4 billion stadium, anticipation is high for this exciting addition to the F1 calendar.

Stay tuned for the official announcement in the coming weeks!

1. The stadium is not happening anytime soon let alone by 2026.
2. No way it's replacing Austin.
3. Chicago sucks, no way this is happening.

I will add I do get tired of Euro's complaining about 3 races in the US is too many. They fail to understand the size of the states. Same with when they complain about the start times of Us races, considering all the horrible start times we have to put up with
