How to get VCDS working on your cayenne:
You need to swap the Porsche k-line to the vw k-line position. (Porsche on pin3, vw on pin7)
easiest way is a obd y cable and some crimps.
Dont go soldering your expensive vcds cable!
google OBD pinout to make sure that you connect the right wires.

I have a leftover vag com from my days of owning a VW Touareg and am interested in trying this. The vag com I have has a USB connector for the vag com to connect to your laptop. In looking at the photo, where is the USB connector to connect with your laptop?

So is there an advantage to swapping pin 3 and 7 lines rather than bridging them? You usually see people bridging them I believe, that's what I did and it works well. Although there are many control modules I still can't read, I'm wondering if swapping them would be better. I guess the question is does Porsche put K data on 3 and 7 or just 3...if it is just 3 then swapping would be better, in case connecting to 7 as well causes problems with the signal. But if some modules communicate on 3 and others on 7 (the VW ones maybe?), perhaps one would see more with them bridged?
Edit: I re-read that post (which I remember from years ago), and they swapped 3 and 7 and got the new modules but lost the engine and transmission modules. Bridged I get both so that might answer that, but interestingly Uwe (the author of VCDS) suggests sending pin 15 to pin 3 to get all. Might have to beak out the soldering iron and do some testing...

I had trouble with jumping them together. It just didn’t work, not sure why. Hence this solution.
Channels 1 and 2 (Dme and transmission) are on pin 3. (So I don’t use the adapter at all. Just plug the vcds straight into the car).
Everything else is on 7. (so pin 7 from the car goes to pin 3 on the vcds).

I posted one and a half year ago this mod with the OBD cable <<here>>, and it worked with shorted pin 3 and pin 7 perfectly on my 955 CTT.
It could read as the DME, the transmission and all other readable control units...
Now I have a 957 CTT (2008) since Dec. 2017 and strangely it don't reads the DME and Transmission. All other units are readable.
For example I've lowered the 955 CTT and the 957 CTT without problems.... very easy. It's a genius tool.
I bought the Durametric professional too and it's almost the same thing, but now I can read the DME and transmission without
shorting any pins. The overall fault reading is faster with the Durametric tool.

just another data point... i purchased an obd 2 cable extender like the OP so i didn't have to mess with my vcds cable. just connecting 3-7 for me didn't seem to work, nothing would connect, so i connected 3/7/15 wires all together and now i can connect to everything!

Where did you find that ODB2 extender that has the separate wires so you can see the pin outs? The only ones I could find by searching has the wires bundled which would require cutting & a continuity test until you find the right ones. Or has someone found a better way to swap or combine pins 3 & 7?
