I am not an expert at all, sorry if my message sounded harsh. I am just irritated by the fact I am trying to learn, I asked for help doing things on my own (stupid me, I thought this is what we are all here for), and instead, I am only getting comments from those two telling me installing a piece of hacked software is a rocket-science-complicated task, and that I have to pay someone to provide me with a download link and some instructions. Imagine someone had opened a thread asking for help on how to disassemble their bumper, and instead of getting useful help, they would have only received comments telling them to go to a Porsche dealership.

Anyways, I am done with this discussion. I will just figure this out on my own.

41.400
41.500
41.600

but this basic version 41.600 comes out simultaneously with online updates to version 41.600.10 , which you will not get in any way
update 41.600.010 - a set of data, firmware, and encodings with a volume of 20 gb
it covers all models from 2010 and newer
this applies to any basic version , and even 38.400
the basic versions with SD are intended for only one purpose, if you have a dealer Piwis, and you have corrupted the software, then it has a recovery function, you run recovery from the Bios, and restore the software from the recovery disk to version 33.000
But after the update, the dealer laptop will not be able to download updates and connect to the Porsche server, it is for these purposes that you update the software version 33 to the LATEST CURRENT version, for example 41.600, and after that you connect to the Porsche server using your dealer account and install the necessary bases for full operation, getting version 41.600.010 or newer
that's why, for example, you can never successfully run a campaign for Taycan or Cayenne, 992 or Panamera 971 using any basic version, but you can easily do a lot with an older version that has a full base, for example with version 41.375
the same applies to manual encodings, you can easily and quickly activate the engineering mode, and include a list of manual encodings, but most of these encodings will not function, regardless of what you decide to change, it's not enough to open the menu, you need to have a database inside

there are many more interesting things, for example, engineering firmware, engineering software (Pidt. Pudis. Idex), but all these things are expensive, any Porsche dealer dreams of getting it, and pays for these opportunities to the same hackers

I think I explained the difference clearly

see now? this is a helpful comment with a lot of useful information. Thank you

For now, I only want to be able to look at schematics, get part numbers, etc.
In the future, I would want to change basic things using the engineering mode

PS - it is clear to me that no matter what path I choose, I would have to, at the very least, buy the connector that connects to the car, which seems to be a complicated story on its own
I found this which looks promising

I hesitate to even write this since you seem convinced we are all out to hose you, but here goes…

as I read it he’s telling you the same thing as the others-that you are on a fools errand and it’s more complicated than you think to get all the software working and installed, but good luck.

And I understand that, but I performed a lot of complicated tasks in my years. Just recently I managed to extract some very interesting data about the 718 production numbers.
Then why ask for help here you may ask? I looked for a shortcut, I was under the impression that in 84 pages of conversation, some people chose to do things on their own and was hoping for those people to comment, point me in the right direction and save me some time.

Some things just don't work the way we wish they would. No one is giving you an answer because there is not one. I have read all the pages and there is no where in there where someone cracked the PIWIS themselves and made it public, with the one exception of a posted hack on another forum.

The bottom line is you need the dongle, a laptop, an SSD, and the software. The people selling PIWIS will get you any combo of them but must include software, you can get the hardware yourself. So you can buy the software and go get the other three, or an SSD with the software and get a laptop, or get the whole thing. What you want is the software for free. We are trying to tell you that (with the exception noted) that does not seem to be a thing, at least not in the pages I read. Perhaps you should just move along as you promised several posts ago, another forum may provide you with the answer you seek. I am not trying to troll you or make you mad, I am giving you what I think is the actual answer to your question - "what you seek is not, as far as I have seen, here."

This right here could be a great answer to my original question

Default 41.1 w/38.2

I've been using PIWIS III currently set up with 41.1 and 38.2 and my setup includes the PIWIS 3 manual and PETKA with the 2018 Porsche Tools and equipment catalogue. It all loads proper and no VM to slow down laptop. It's worked great with. K issues I recently got 41.5 but don't see a reason to switch.
Ive learned how to installsetup and activate the programs.

What woUld be useful woukdnbe a list of programmjng codes and procedures beyond reset and clearing codes such as deactivating rear wheel steering, deactivating seat belt.alarm, upgrading vehicle data such as on a Cayman S to GTS etc

Can you explain the benefits of having two versions? What can you do with one that you can't with the other? Also - what are the advantages of 41.1 compared to 40.9?

Hello, Have you gotten any further in your quest for PIWIS 3? Also looking to download it. Could you shed some light on what you have found out?
Thank you
Tom

sure 38.2 has full development also called engineering mode while 41.1 covers the 2022 models including more current updates for the 2018 and more current models such as the 992 amd Taycan ( BTW avoid 41.3 too many issues and problems )

Still investigating.
Basically, it is better to avoid the VM imgs and ..
  1. Get an Acronis TIB file (try searching for keywords like "Piwis 3 40.400 Acronis")
  2. Then you load this file to an SSD using Acronis software
  3. Connect that SSD to your old $50 laptop you got from eBay (you can try matching the laptop model to the original model used when making the Acronis backup)
  4. Activate Piwis using the keygen that is floating around (search for "Piwis keygen")
  5. Get a dongle that works with your Piwis (to my understanding a vas 6154 with firmware 1.6.6)
  6. Profit?

Hello Gents,

is there some basic how-to document for just things on coding? For instance, turning DRL on or off... Air bag on or off, Resetting service etc.
BMW guys had this basic thing on showing you how to do one module and then you can figure out the rest. So much info here and the manual is huge where i'd just like basics to start off with and then i'll be ready to fly.

I've played around it in simulation mode... i go to diagnostics, pick a model in simulation mode, then find a module... then coding programming... then in there i can see manual coding automatic etc...
But i guess my question is, when you change from ja to nein or whatever... do you just hit save? I don't want to break something.... thank you!
